Electronic Prescribing Service (EPS)
Electronic prescribing enables prescribers, such as GP’s and other non-medical prescribers to send prescriptions electronically to a dispenser (such as a pharmacy) of the patient’s choice. This makes the prescribing and dispensing process more efficient and convenient for patients and staff.
Please contact a pharmacy of your choice and ask to "nominate" them for receipt of your Electronic Prescriptions Service (EPS). Thereafter, you should order your medication directly from your Pharmacy (there is no need to contact us). We will process your request within 2 working days of receipt. The prescription will go directly to your pharmacy via an electronic link. They will dispense your medication and you then collect your order directly from them, completely bypassing your GP surgery. This new system is more secure, will save patient's time and avoid unnecessary trips to the surgery.
You can find out more about EPS here: http://systems.hscic.gov.uk/eps/patients
When you are informed that your EPS prescription is due for renewal, you should contact us on 01642 475157. We will arrange for a prescriber to review your medications. You do not need to make an appointment for this review. We will contact you if the prescriber reviewing your medication wishes to see you in person.
Repeat prescriptions take up to 72 hours (2 working days) from receipt to process. Some chemists offer a collection and delivery service. If you would like a chemist to collect, dispense and deliver your prescription this will take longer. Please contact the pharmacy of your choice for further details about dispensing and delivery timescales.
Please help us to reduce NHS waste by only ordering the medication you require.
Electronic repeat dispensing (ERD)
This is only appropriate for patients who consistently have the same medication. Once we have activated electronic repeat dispensing (ERD) for you, this means we have authorised six months of repeat medication for you (excludes inhalers, creams, drops and sprays, these need to be requested by an alternative method). You do not need to order your medication during this time, the pharmacist will already have your prescription and they aim to dispense it a few days before it is due. Your pharmacist should advise you when your last prescription has been issued but it's wise to make a note yourself. When your last repeat prescription has been dispensed (in approximately six months' time), you should contact us to arrange for the GP to review your medication and issue you another prescription for six months. You do not need to make a Doctor's appointment for this. Our reception staff will liaise with the Doctor and arrange this for you.
