Appointments

When you register with the Practice, you will be registered with a specific Doctor and this will be recorded in your medical records- this is your accountable GP. Please see "New patients; Registration" for more information.

When you make an appointment you can ask to see any Doctor. We will try to accommodate your preferences, but there may be times when you are not able to see the Practitioner of your choice.

Appointments can be made with our Doctors, Advanced Practitioners or Nurses by telephone or calling at Reception during opening hours. A limited range of appointments can be booked via our website once you have registered for this service. Please see the "online services" page for further information.

If more than one family member is to be seen, please let Reception know when booking. Also, please indicate if a special appointment is necessary. For example: if it is for antenatal or family planning or you require the interpreter service.

Face to face consultations are bookable up to 4 weeks in advance and some are bookable on the day. For ongoing conditions and chronic disease management, we suggest you plan your visits well in advance. Our reception team can advise on the clinician best suited to your needs.

We also offer book-on-the-day phone consultations with our AP and GPs, and some book in advance phone consultations with our GPs. The latter are intended for patients who have been asked to discuss their test results on the phone with a GP.

For on the day appointments, you are advised to call the surgery at 8:00am for a morning appointment and at 2:00pm for an afternoon appointment. On the day appointments are intended for those whose clinical needs are urgent and we therefore ask that you are available for a consultation during the surgery in which you make contact. Your request may be triaged according to guidelines designed by our GPs to ensure that your needs are met in the most appropriate manner by the most appropriate clinician. You may be directed to alternative services such as your local pharmacy, alternative sources of information, or asked to provide information or samples for the doctor to review after their booked clinics in the first instance.

If you have an urgent illness that cannot wait until the next available appointment or surgery, you will be given a time to attend at the end of the surgery in which you call. You may not be able to see the doctor of your choice and you may have to wait longer than usual, but one of our doctors will always consult with you on the same day if you have an urgent clinical need.

For any minor illnesses, please ask if our Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Practitioner is available to advise you rather than a GP in the first instance.

We know that when you ask for an appointment you are balancing the time, place, type of appointment, and person you see in deciding if the appointment offered is convenient to you. The questions our reception team will ask are designed to help you know what choices are available to you and to help the Practitioner prepare for their consultation with you. Please answer the receptionist’ questions as fully as possible and work with them to find an appointment solution that works for you.

Patients arriving late for their appointment may not be seen, depending on the time they arrive and the availability of the healthcare professional the patient is appointed with.
