Text Message Reminders

Text messaging

At the surgery we use a text messaging system to occasionally contact our patients. We are now able to text our patients much more than just appointment reminders. Documents, letters and forms can now be sent via text message to any patient who has a smartphone. We can also share useful links, NHS information leaflets and results of test results via text message.

What do i need to do?

We will not send you text messages without your consent. Most patients have either consented or opted out of text messaging when they registered with the practice, by filling out the relevant section on their registration form.

However if you are unsure if you did this or not or you opted out but have changed your mind and wish to receive information via text message please fill out the consent form.

(If you have previously consented to receiving text messages but now wish to opt out, please contact main reception on 01273 685588)

New Data Protection Regulations from May 2018 (GDPR)

Under the new data protection regulations introduced from 25th May 2018, we will continue to contact patients via text messages regarding the delivery of care if they have provided consent to do so.

If practices are sending messages about recommended treatment for the management of a specific health issue, then this is defined as providing appropriate care for patients, not marketing purposes.
