Measles

Measles cases in the Midlands are rising. Measles is an infection that spreads very easily and can cause serious problems in some people. Having the MMR vaccine is the best way to prevent it and protect our communities.

Measles symptoms include: high fever, sore, red, watery eyes: coughing; aching and feeling generally unwell; a blotchy red brown rash, which usually appears after initial symptoms.

If you have symptoms of measles, stay at home and phone your GP or NHS 111 for advice. Stay away from GP surgeries and A&E departments

Stay off nursery, school, or work for at least 4 days from when the rash first appears.

It’s never too late to be vaccinated. You need two doses of the MMR vaccine to be fully protected against measles, mumps and rubella.

PATIENT NOTICE REGARDING APPOINTMENT BOOKING

November 2021

Dear Patients,

We wanted to let you know how the last year has changed at Warley Medical Centre and what it means moving forward.

Last year, in response to the global pandemic and in guidance with NHS England, Warley Medical Centre adopted a Telephone First Triage System for appointments. Other GP surgeries in the area have already been using this system effectively for many years. We did not stop doing clinically necessary Face to Face appointments, but these were arranged by the clinician after completing a telephone triage. In June 2021 we offered 3994 telephone appointments and 764 Face to Face appointments with the clinicians. This does not include appointments with the nurses.

Moving forward, we have decided to continue with the Telephone First Triage System for our appointments.

How to book a call back appointment

You can arrange a call back either online, in person at reception or over the telephone from 8am daily. We offer morning and afternoon clinics. Whilst we cannot guarantee a certain time for a call back (sometimes other patient's calls take longer than anticipated) we can narrow it down for example 'Before 1pm' or 'After 4pm'. If you are booking your appointment online please remember to write this information in the comments section of the appointment along with your contact telephone number. Also note that the time of your online slot is not necessarily the time the clinician will call you, clinicians start calling patients from 8.30am then continue throughout the day.

The clinician will try to contact a patient twice, leaving at least 20 minutes in between each attempt. If you miss both calls then unfortunately you will need to re-book your appointment. Please ensure your contact details are kept up to date with us.

We offer a set amount of on the day and one day in advance appointments. All our appointments are available from 8am daily for everyone, we do not release any later in the day for the afternoon.

If you call us and we are fully booked, you may have to try again another day.

Face coverings

When restrictions were lifted from 19th July, we asked that you continue to wear a face covering when entering the GP surgery, maintain social distancing and use hand sanitiser. This is still required indefinitely, until NHS England advises otherwise. All staff and clinicians will also continue to wear PPE.

Please monitor our website for future updates. Instructions for signing-up for online access to view your records, prescriptions and book appointments can be viewed here.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and patience.

COVID VACCINES

October 2021

As of 25th October, you are no longer able to book Covid vaccines through the surgery. Please call 119 to book an appointment, or book online via the NHS.

How to access your COVID-19 vaccination status

https://check-in.1gov.uk/guidance-demonstrating-your-covid-19-vaccination-status-when-travelling-abroad-3/

You can access your COVID-19 vaccination status through the free NHS App from 17 May. You can access the app through mobile devices such as a smartphone or by tablet. Proof of your COVID-19 vaccination status will be shown within the NHS App. We recommend that you register with the app before booking international travel.

If you do not have access to a smartphone and know that the country you are travelling to requires COVID-19 vaccination status, you can call the NHS helpline on 119 (from 17 May) and ask for a letter to be posted to you. This must be at least 5 days after you've completed your course of the vaccine. We expect the letter to take up to 5 days to reach you.

Do not contact your GP surgery about your COVID-19 vaccination status. GPs cannot provide letters showing your COVID-19 vaccination status
