Have Your Say

Our website has been designed to make it easy for you to gain instant access to the information you need. As well as specific practice details such as opening hours and how to register, you’ll find a wealth of useful pages covering a wide range of health issues along with links to other relevant medical organisations.

Monday 19th December 2022 - please note we have current staff shortage for 4 weeks.  Please allow 3-5 days for your prescription to be processed over this time.  Thank you.

Changes to Open Surgery and surgery appointments.

We are delighted to announce Hermitage Medical Practice has re-started Open Surgery clinics.
The open surgery is accessible on the day without a pre-booked appointment, and will take place in the morning for all patients.
The open surgery clinics will run Monday to Friday from 9am. Patients must arrive in person to check in and be booked in by 10am. Patients can check in from 8am if they wish.

Open surgery clinics will be capped each day at safe limits. We will endeavour to see all patients who check into the surgery in person before 10am, but if the safe working level has been reached then patients will be asked to return on a different day to be seen.

BMA Scotland has advised GP Practices to consider how their level of working compares to recommendations on safe working. Various limits will be placed on services to ensure both GPs and their staff and patients are protected from unreasonable work levels. We hope you understand.

The open surgery clinic appointments are 10 minutes in length, if you feel your appointment may take longer then please book into the pre booked afternoon clinic.  Open surgeries deal with one problem only.  Please do not bring a list of problems.  This allows the open surgery clinic to run smoothly for all patients.

How are GP Practices working?

GP practices are open Since the pandemic, health services must operate differently to protect everyone. It’s important to maintain safe infection control and minimise unnecessary physical contact where possible. This means there are now more ways for you to access care.

Why do receptionists ask questions? GP reception staff are a vital part of the health care team and are there to triage enquires. You don’t have to tell them anything that makes you uncomfortable, however they can help you get the most appropriate appointment as quickly as possible. All the information they handle is treated confidentially.

I wanted to see my GP, so why am I seeing someone else? Many GP practice teams include, or are supported by, nurses, advanced nurse practitioners (who can diagnose and treat health conditions), occupational therapists, pharmacists, physiotherapists and link workers. By using the skills of each healthcare professional we can ensure you are assessed as quickly as possible by the right person.

What about emergencies? Always dial 999 in a life-threatening emergency. If you need help with minor injuries or urgent care when your GP practice is closed dial NHS 24 on 111.

Where else can I get help? Visit www.nhsinform.scot for advice on common symptoms and a list of local services or speak to your pharmacist first for advice on minor illnesses.

Call 111:
• for minor injuries
• for urgent mental health advice and guidance
• if you’re too ill to wait for your GP or dentist #to open.

Please be patient Our health services are under enormous pressure, but we are open and here if needed. Please work together with us to make sure you get the right care, in the right place, at the right time by the appropriate health professional for your needs.

Right care Right Place

The burst of the Right Care Right Place Campaign aims to promote use of NHS 111 and visiting GP services for non life threatening medical issues.  Please take a look at the documents below.

Rules in General Practice

The Scottish Government requires General Practice and other healthcare settings to have different infection control and physical distancing guidance to other places such as hospitality and shops.  This is to help reduce the risk to practice staff and to people attending the practice who may be at greater risk if they catch Covid 19 or a Respiratory Infection.  The following rules still apply in General Practice:

  • wearing of face coverings by patients and the public (unless you are exempt)
  • wearing of PPE by staff
  • screening of all patients for Covid 19 and respiratory symptoms

Please support your local practice team by complying with this guidance.

Zero Tolerance for abuse

Hermitage Medical Practice takes it very seriously if a member of staff or one of the doctors or nursing team is treated in an abusive or violent way.  In recent months the number of patients treating staff in an unreasonable manner has increased dramatically.

The Practice supports the government's 'Zero Tolerance' campaign for Health Service Staff. This states that GPs and their staff have a right to care for others without fear of being attacked or abused. To successfully provide these services a mutual respect between all the staff and patients has to be in place. All our staff aim to be polite, helpful, and sensitive to all patients’ individual needs and circumstances. We would respectfully remind patients that very often staff could be confronted with a multitude of varying and sometimes difficult tasks and situations, all at the same time. The staff understand that ill patients do not always act in a reasonable manner and will take this into consideration when trying to deal with a misunderstanding or complaint.

However, aggressive behaviour, be it violent or abusive, will not be tolerated and may result in you being removed from the Practice list and, in extreme cases, the Police being contacted.

In order for the practice to maintain good relations with their patients the practice would like to ask all its patients to read and take note of the occasional types of behaviour that would be found unacceptable:
• Using bad language or swearing at practice staff
• Any physical violence towards any member of the Primary Health Care Team or other patients, such as pushing or shoving
• Verbal abuse towards the staff in any form including verbally insulting the staff
• Racial abuse and sexual harassment will not be tolerated within this practice
• Persistent or unrealistic demands that cause stress to staff will not be accepted. Requests will be met wherever possible and explanations given when they cannot
• Causing damage/stealing from the Practice's premises, staff or patients
• Obtaining drugs and/or medical services fraudulently
We ask you to treat your GPs and their staff courteously at all times.

COVID_19 Vaccination status scheme launches

A vaccination status letter can be downloaded from the NHS Inform patient portal or - for those not online - requested in the post via a Freephone Covid Status Helpline.

Only those planning to travel to a country or territory where a record of vaccination status is needed as an entry requirement should download the record or request it.

While there are no countries currently requiring vaccination status to travel, international travel restrictions can change quickly requiring such measures to be in place.

The measures are intended to ease the burden on the NHS by removing the need for people to ask their GP for a status record.

As Scotland's vaccination program progresses, vaccination status will be replaced by digital Covid Status Certificates, which will include vaccination and testing data to be used for outbound international travel.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Gregor Smith said:

Given the risk of returning with infection, and especially of introducing new variants of the virus, we continue to be highly cautious about international travel. Everyone should continue to limit their travel abroad and while I understand the need for some people who want to reunite with family, when it comes to holidays, my advice continues to be play it safe and staycation this summer.

For those that do need it, this new service will provide people with a record of their vaccination status for outbound international travel.

They should only access their record if they are planning to travel within 21 days and it is a requirement of their destination.

People will be able access their Covid-19 Vaccine Status online, by logging on to www.nhsinform.scot/covid19status.

People who have lost or forgotten their username or password will be able to create new ones by selecting 'forgot username' or 'forgot password' options. A Freephone Covid Status Helpline will allow people to get the record posted to them.

It can be contacted on 0808 196 8565.

The Scottish Government continues to urge a highly cautious approach to international travel, given the risk of new variants. The four UK Chief Medical Officers have said that green-list status should be the exception, rather than the rule, with countries added to the list only where there are very good reasons for doing so.

If you are intending to travel abroad you should:

check the entry requirements for your destination country on the UK foreign travel advice pages

get up-to-date information from the website of your destination country

check the re-entry requirements for your return to Scotland

only request a vaccination record if it is absolutely required and you are due to travel in the next 21 days
