Equality and Diversity

Thornbrook Surgery’s statement in relation to Equality and Diversity:

Thornbrook Surgery understands its obligation to eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation and any other conduct prohibited by the Equality ACT 2010.

The Thornbrook Values are to ensure a service delivery that is:

Compassionate

Accurate

Respectful

Empathetic

The Thornbrook team developed and committed to these values being offered to all internal and external service users. These values are at the core of all services that are developed and delivered, staff appraisals and business planning. The core values are built into the on-going training programmes at Thornbrook Surgery to raise the awareness in all the practice team about equality, diversity and human rights issues. A range of mandatory and voluntary training takes place throughout the year.

In planning services due regard is been given to ensure equality and diversity in relation to:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender
  • Gender identity
  • Marriage and Civil partnership status
  • Maternity and pregnancy status
  • Race
  • Religion or belief
  • Sexual orientation

The following pointers apply to all the above:

  • The primary factor relating to access to the services will be based on health needs and not any of the above
  • No assumptions have been made about users of the service based on any of the above
  • The team arranging the services will not make a judgement of need based on the above
  • The Thornbrook Values work towards ensuring services are offered in a manner that offers dignity to everybody, internal and external customers
  • Reasonable adjustments will be made to accommodate the differing needs of patients e.g. If needed sign language/interpreter services/sound loops will be offered as part of the service, changing area for parent and baby, privacy area for discussion with receptionist, accessibility to consultation rooms
  • Computer based registers to highlight if any patients needing any aspect of the winter pressures service require additional support/intervention e.g. key code access to their home, impairments of any type
  • The wording of written and verbal communication will be appropriate and sensitive to all patients and staff.                                                    May 2016
