Shortages of GLP1 Medication for Diabetic Patients

Shortages of GLP1 Medication for Diabetic Patients

Dear Patient

You are currently on a medication called a GLP1 for your diabetes. This might be one of the following medications:

  • Exenatide (Byetta, Bydureon)
  • Semaglutide (Ozempic, Rybelsus)
  • Lixisenatide (Lyxumia)
  • Liraglutide (Saxenda, Victoza)
  • Dulaglutide (Trulicity)

Unfortunately there is a national shortage of this medication and it seems that this will not be back in stock until mid-2024. We have been advised not to switch to alternative preparations or supply lower doses at increased amounts to make up higher doses due to shortages affecting all of these medications across the board.

When you run out of this medication it is safe for you to stop taking it and for you to wait for your next diabetic check with the nurse for you to discuss an alternative.

Useful information about stopping your GLP1 medication can be found on the link here: Advice About Stopping GLP1

If you have already stopped your medication due to no supply then we will endeavour to prioritise your diabetic appointment over the next few months. Please let us know by emailing chgp.prg@dorsetgp.nhs.ukThere is nothing you need do before.
