District Nurses

home_visitThe team of District (Community) nurses associated with the practice is based at Harpurhey Health Centre. We meet with them regularly and have a close working relationship. They deal quickly and efficiently with our chronically ill, housebound and elderly patients and patients who have recently been discharged from hospital and need follow-up care.  Usually patients acquire the services of the district nurse through referral from their GP or hospital. The District nurses make the preliminary visit to a patient after discharge from hospital following cardiac surgery and then liaise with the medical staff at the practice.

Health Visitor

The health visitor is involved with patients between birth and 5 years and will introduce herself after the birth of a new baby or when new patients join the list.  Although we do not currently have a named Health Visitor, we have close links with a small team of Health Visitors who cover our area. We are able to give you contact details for the team if required.

Community Midwives

The antenatal clinic for practice patients is held at the Higher Blackley SureStart Centre further down Victoria Avenue, on the corner of Cooper Lane every Monday. It was held in the surgery for many years but we now have so many pregnant ladies that we simply ran out of space! If you need to speak to the midwife for advice please make an appointment to see her during antenatal clinic – she will be happy to help. Our receptionists can give you her contact number.
