Dear Patient

Please read: Important information about your GP practice.

Dear Patients

I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on our permanent plans for The Medic Care Surgery in light of the recent development of the old practice site being put up for public auction soon.

We can confirm that, although we have every intention to move back to the area, we are not planning to make an offer for the old practice site.

We want to make sure our surgery is fit for the future and provides the best GP service possible.  The previous building in Teynham is too small to deliver current services and certainly would not allow for our plans to expand. Additionally, in its current state it is unlikely to pass CQC regulations. We do not believe that moving back to this old building is a clinically safe or a viable option for our patients.

We are currently working with a chartered surveyor who is very experienced in medical buildings. They are helping us with this vision and have already met some development companies with whom we are in discussions.

We aim to develop a practice, which is future proof at least for the next 20 years or more. This requires some time to get things right with all the appropriate permissions.

I want to assure you of our commitment to the area and to our patients in Teynham and surrounding villages.  Some developments and work to make sure our patients are not disadvantaged include:

  •      The Medic Care Surgery has recently been registered by CQC as a new GP provider for GP services across patients in Teynham and surrounding areas.

  •      Those using transport are offered appointments at times, which allows easier access via trains and taxis etc. We understand the poor public transport provision for our patients and unfortunately, this unacceptable situation is out of our hands.

  •     We run a monthly phlebotomy and nurse-led clinic in Teynham to allow easy access for elderly and vulnerable patients.

  •      We are responsive and offer 80% of same day appointments for the GP and 60% for the nurse. Our patients have increased their use of e-Consult and we continually receive very positive feedback from patients who use this online consultation service.

  •      We have significantly increased our clinical team to x2 permanent GPs: Dr Nilan and Dr Uppal, practice nurse, clinical pharmacist, HCA, and phlebotomist. We also provide a room weekly for our PCN Health and Wellbeing Coach on site which helps to alleviate the health equalities within our area.

  •      We have expanded our on-site clinical services to not just include phlebotomy, but also ECG, and 24hr blood pressure monitoring. We are due to start on site anticoagulation services.

  •      We have a very collaborative working relationship with the Teynham local pharmacy, Green Street Pharmacy and hold quarterly meetings to ensure patients can meet some of their requests directly at the local pharmacy.

As we progress with our plans to move we will of course keep our patients informed and our PPG will help with this.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our patients for their continued support and patience.

Kind regards

 Dr Lavan Nilan Sasikethan

GP Principal – The Medic Care Surgery

Change in rules regarding face coverings

It was announced that from July 24th 2020 everyone is required to wear a face covering when entering a shop or business.

This is in addition to wearing one on Public Transport which has been mandatory for sometime now.

If you feel you are unable to wear a mask for auditory/sensory/breathing reasons, please visit www.keepsafe.org.uk/mask and download an exemption card for you to show if asked why you are not wearing one.

Please note, it is NOT the responsibility or the role of the Surgery to issue anyone with an exemption letter or certificate. Please visit the website above for more information.

It is essential that everyone acts to stop the spread of the virus.

Wash your hands, cover your face, make space. These are the three most effective ways we can all control the spread of the virus.

Remember if you have any coronavirus symptoms; high temperature, a new continuous cough, or a loss or change in your sense of taste or smell, get a free test by calling 119 or book online.
