Type 1 Opt Out (Data Sharing) / National Data Opt Out

The Government has decided it will collect, process, analyse and disseminate your GP data for Planning and Research Direction 2021.

From 1st September 2021, the patient data will be extracted from GP systems on a daily basis; data will be encrypted and pseudonymised.

As this is a statutory obligation, practices are legally obliged to share this data. Click HERE to learn more about what the government says.

You do not need to do anything if you are happy for your data to be shared in this manner.

If you as a patient want to opt out of your data being shared, apart from information used for your direct care, you have the option of registering a Type 1 Opt Out or a National Opt Out or both. To opt out of the National Data Opt Out - Please visit https://www.nhs.uk/your-nhs-data-matters/ or telephone 0300 303 5678 Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

If you wish to register your Type 1 Opt Out choice, you will need to print a form, sign it with your preferred option and then send it back to the surgery by post or email it to peterloo.information@nhs.net If you do not have access to a computer or printer then you can collect a form from the front lobby of the surgery. You must return the Type 1 Opt Out Form to us by 1st September 2021 to ensure no data is uploaded from your records.

From July 1^st 2021 the government has directed NHS Digital (the national provider of data analysis for the NHS) to permanently access you and your family’s GP medical records.

What this means is that NHS Digital will have access to your personal care records, including:

• Data about your medical conditions, diagnoses, symptoms, observations, GP encounters / appointments, test results, medications, allergies, referrals, recalls and information about your physical, mental and sexual health
• Data on your sex, ethnicity and sexual orientation
• Data about staff who have treated patients such as yourself

NHS Digital state that your information will be used to:

1. Research the long-term impact of coronavirus on the population
2. Analyse healthcare inequalities
3. Research and develop cures for serious illnesses

Once NHS Digital has access to your personal medical information, they will have that information saved permanently. This means that it will also be possible for them to sell your personal confidential information to private organisations if they chose to do so.

PATCHS GP Online Service

We are trialing a new GP online service in order to offer additional access for our patients to GP advice. All you need to do is answer four simple questions and your query will be submitted to a GP (or admin if it doesn't need to be dealt with by a GP) and will be dealt with within 48 hours.

If your query is urgent we would recommend patients to telephone the surgery as usual.

DAD CHAT LIVE

The Dad Chat is a Facebook page, developed to support dads to understand their baby, brain development in babies, mental health issues for mums and dads and how to access the right services at the right time.

Every Wednesday they hold a Facebook Live session at 6pm.

Are you a parent or carer of a child aged 0-19? Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Children's Integrated Community Health Services have a text messaging service.

You can text a health professional for confidential advice on;
Feeding and nutrition, Child Development, Emotional Health and Wellbeing, Behaviour Challenges, Family Health, Sleep Routines, Toileting and Continence, Bullying, Minor Accidents and Illness.

A message from your GP

A booklet has been produced by the GP surgery in partnership with Rochdale Health Alliance, the local GP Federation.
We all know that the NHS is struggling to meet demand. People are living longer and have more complex illnesses and budgets do not cover the cost of meeting these problems. There are fewer GPs to deal with increasing patient lists. this means that it is more difficult to get an appointment when you request one.

All practices want to provide the best possible service for patients and this helpful guide is intended to help you get the best possible experience when you access your GP services and to provide information on other services that, depending on your problem, can help you.

Armed Forces Accredited Practice

Peterloo Medical Centre is now an accredited Armed Forces Veteran Friendly practice.

Extended Hours

We are now able to offer appointments for blood tests on Saturday mornings from 8.00am until 12.00pm and Cervical Smear appointments with our Practice Nurses before 8.00am on Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week for patients who may not be able to attend during normal opening hours.

Healthy Hajj and Umrah

This manual with 101 tips is based on the experience of providing medical clinics during the period of Hajj in Makkah and Mina. A medical team of 8-10 GPs annually travel to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to provide free healthcare to predominantly British pilgrims.

Telephone Call Recording

Please note that from 1st February 2019 - all incoming and outgoing calls to the practice are recorded.

Peterloo Medical Centre utilises telephone recording technology to support training, education and address patient concerns. Both incoming and outgoing calls are recorded. Although incoming calls are notified of the recording facility, outgoing calls are not notified. The surgery will retain the call content for a period of 90 days before deleting. In the event that the call needs to be shared with a third party, the patient will be notified in advance.

Activities

HOLWAC Walking leaflet - If you are over 55 and would like to get involved with the 'Wild Awake Mindfulness In Nature' Walking Group in association with Link4Life - please click on the link to view the leaflet.

Activ8 Me Sessions - In association with Link4Life you can attend Low Cost, Pay as you Go Adult Fitness and Sports Sessions, No membership required. All ages (16+) welcome and all abilities welcome! All sessions are 'just turn up' unless otherwise stated.

Charity

Over the past few years we have started to hold a few fundraising events which we had great participation from our staff and patients.

In 2015 we walked from the surgery to St Peter's square in Manchester raising approximately £3600 in sponsorship for Children in Need.

In April 2016 we did a 10 mile sponsored walk from the practice to Hollingworth Lake for Teenage Cancer Trust in conjunction with Manchester March of the Mods. This was a great day out and attended by over 50 members of staff and patients, we even got the local police to join us for the first two miles and we raised just over £2300.

Dr Syed and Nurse Emma completed a 60 mile bike ride in aid of Macmillan and Breast Cancer Awareness in 2016

During 2016/17 we held a few Tea Dances for our Middleton population of Over 65's. This was accompanied by a fantastic swing band and everyone had such a great time, although this was not for charity it was nice to give something back to Middleton. It was wonderful to see people happy and there were some fantastic dancers, although we think the doctors are better at signing prescriptions than they are at the Quick Step!

In July 2018 we held a Cupcake Day at the surgery. Staff and Doctors baked/bought cakes and these were sold to both staff and patients. We raised £110 in total for the Alzheimers Society.

On Friday 28th September 2018 we held a Macmillan Coffee morning at the surgery in conjunction with the Living With and Beyond Cancer Team raising a fantastic total of £219.21

In 2019 we participated in ELF Day at the practice where staff and doctors dressed up and worked as Elves for the day, for the Alzheimer's Society and we raised £128

Appointment DNAs (Did Not Attend)

If you are struggling to get an appointment at the surgery one of the reasons is patients not attending their appointments, meaning the Doctor, Nurse or Healthcare Assistant have a wasted appointment that could have been offered to another patient if it had been cancelled. If you cannot attend your appointment for whatever reason, please let us know in enough time before the appointment is due, so we can allocate it to someone else. Please note that the Practice has a policy for removing patients who persistently fail to attend appointments.

Shingles

The shingles vaccine can be requested for peo-ple aged 70 and 78 . Those who missed out on their shingles vaccine at age 70 are still eligible at ages 71, 72 and 73. And those who missed out on their shingles vaccine at age 78 are eligible at 79. Shingles vaccines can be done at the same time as flu vaccines. Alternatively – please telephone the surgery and book an appointment with Mary or Emma.

Screening Programmes

The aim of screening programmes is to increase the frequency of early diagnoses in at-risk patients, resulting in quicker treatment whilst disease isn’t as serious—thus increasing the chances of recovery. A common misconception is that screening programmes only look for Cancer—they don’t! In fact, they often lead to treatment for different problems which could lead to an improved quality of life.
