Don’t get caught out without your prescription medicine  

If you rely on regular medication, make sure you get your repeat prescription request in, in good time. The turn-around time for routine repeat medicines is usually a week, so allow for this. Make sure you don’t run out over a weekend or a bank holiday. 

To get a repeat prescription, please: 

• Use the NHS app or your GP practice’s online form to make a request or use the repeat medication slip from your last prescription and place it in the prescription collection box at reception of your GP practice. 
• If you are unable to do that, then contact your GP practice directly during their opening times to discuss how to access your repeat prescription. 
• If you regularly get the same prescription medicines, ask your GP practice about electronic repeat dispensing This is where you will not need to contact your GP practice every time you need a repeat prescription. Instead, you can go directly to your nominated pharmacy for an agreed period of time. 
• If your GP Practice is closed and you have run out of medication, please contact your local pharmacy for advice. 

As a last resort only, NHS 111 will supply emergency repeat medications during the out of hours period. However, this will only be done in clinically exceptional circumstances. You are likely to only get a limited number of days’ supply depending on the medication and will need to arrange your medicines again via your GP practice.

First Contact Physiotherapist

As from Tuesday 13th August 2019 the Practice will have the services of a 'First contact physiotherapist' twice a week, whose role in primary care is to assess patients with soft tissue, muscle and joint pain and to decide on the most appropriate management pathway. FCPs are physiotherapists with expertise in the assessment and management of Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions. They can organise investigations, medications and onward services.

The Reception team will now need to ask why you need to see a GP, so that you can be sign posted to the most appropriate professional.

Phlebotomy Service provided by Princess Alexandra Hospital

As from 13th April 2019 the phlebotomist will be attending the surgery on the following Days/Times:

Monday: 11:45 - 13:00

Tuesday: 11:15 - 13:00

Wednesday: 11:15 - 13:00

The service is by confirmed appointment only.

Appointments are released at 11:00am the day before:

i.e. Ring Monday @ 11:00 for Tuesday's appointments, Tuesday @ 11:00 for Wednesday's appointments and ring at 11:00 am on Wednesday for Monday's appointments. 

We also now have appointments on Thursday: 11:15 - 13:00 - These appointments can be booked at any time, to help patients have greater freedom. (Sadly to date this clinic has the highest number of 'Did not attends'. Please let us know if you are unable to come, so that we can offer this service to someone else).

Practice Catchment Area - 17/11/2017

Following the proposal published 12/06/2017 to amend the Practice catchment area. This has now been agreed by West Essex CCG and therefore as from the 20th November 2017 this will now be adhered to.

Old Harlow Health Centre is part of My Care Record, an approach to improving care by joining up health and care information. Wherever possible, health and care professionals will be able to access your records from other services when it is needed for your care. For example, a hospital doctor, community nurse, or social worker involved in your care could view the information they need from your GP record. Accountable / Named GP for all patients

All patients registered at the Old Harlow Health Centre have a named doctor who has overall responsibility for your care and support. If you choose to see another doctor at the surgery, you are entirely free to go on doing so as before.
