Infection Control Annual Statement February 2021
Purpose
An Infection control statement will be generated each year
- Any infection transmission incidents and any action taken (these will have been reported in accordance with our Significant Event procedure)
- Details of any infection control audits undertaken and actions undertaken
- Details of any control risk assessments undertaken
- Details of staff training
- Any review and update of policies, procedures and guidelines
Background
The Neville Family Medical Centre leads for Infection, Prevention and Control, are Lynn Helliwell (Practice Nurse) supported by Mike Neville (Managing Partner)
Significant Events
In the past year (1st January 2020 – 31st December 2020) due to COVID protocols the practice was closed for one afternoon to undergo a full deep clean and fumigation.
Audits
An Infection control audit was carried out by Lynn Helliwell
Any areas that required renewal, concern, or updating have been resolved.
Risk Assessments
Risk assessments are carried out so best practice can be established and then followed.
Cleaning specifications, frequencies and cleanliness of equipment
We have a contracted cleaning company who also undertake reviews and audits on a quarterly basis. The company adheres to all protocols required by the CQC.
Toys, books and magazines
We provide no toys in the waiting room or consultation rooms. To manage risk it was decided to remove toys from the premises. Educational materials are still available.
Curtains /blinds
The curtains in consultation rooms around the beds are disposable and changed on a schedule.
The blinds across the building have been assessed.
Staff training
All staff have undertaken hand hygiene training, and will continue to have annual training assessments
Policies, Procedures and Guidelines
Policies relating to Infection Prevention and Control are reviewed and updated annually if appropriate. However, all are amended on an on-going basis as current advice changes.
