When you call us.....
When you call the surgery our admin team will ask for some information about the reason for your call. This is so we can assess how best to deal with your call, who is best to deal with your call and what timeframe is appropriate.
If your call is something which needs dealt with that day then our DUTY DOCTOR will call you back. This may not be the doctor you usually attend.
If you want a specific doctor or it is a routine matter you may need to wait till later that week or even into the following week.
This is the normal procedure.
Please be patient and courteous with our admin team who will always do their best to help you whilst following the wishes of the clinical team.
CHANGE TO SURGERY SERVICE
As from Monday 23rd March 2020, anyone who is unwell and worried about COVID-19 MUST phone NHS24 on 111 or consult NHS Inform as their first point of contact, NOT their GP.
Due to the ongoing outbreak we are putting in place a series of measures to keep all our patients and staff as safe as we possibly can:
- For the foreseeable future, open surgery will be suspended and all patients will be required to call the surgery on: 01620 842171 and triaged by phone by GP. Practice Nurse appointments will also be triaged and called accordingly. You will be asked for a summary of your symptoms and if you have been in direct contact with a person who has tested positive for Coronavirus. The GP will contact you by return phone call and if deemed safe and necessary then you may be given an appointment.

We would like to thank all our patients for their understanding and ask if you could share this information as widely as possible.
Please note that it is currently taking the Pharmacies slightly longer to process repeat prescription requests. We would ask that you refrain from ordering any unnecessary medication at this time.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic many services have had to change the way they operate. If you have a MINOR INJURY, a need for PHYSIOTHERAPY or a MENTAL HEALTH concern please see the following information.
New East Lothian Mental Health Line (01620 642 963)
Feeling anxious, depressed or just a bit down?
The new ELHSCP Mental Health line is open from 09.00 to 16.00 Monday to Friday. You don’t need a referral from a GP or other clinical professional to use it. It’s for anyone aged 18 and over. If you are feeling anxious, depressed or have other worries about your mental health, call us on 01620 642 963 between 09.00 and 16.00 Monday to Friday. An experienced worker will take your details and make an appointment for you to speak to a specialist mental health practitioner, who will ring you back at a at time that is convenient for your within the next 36 hours. The practitioner will assess you over the phone, and provide help and support and sometimes a referral on to other services.
New East Lothian MSK support line
Muscle or joint pain?
The new East Lothian MSK support line is open from 09.00 to 11.30 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. You don’t need a referral from a GP or other clinical professional to use it.
When you call, a member of their team will take your details and make an appointment for you for a telephone review with an advanced physiotherapy practitioner. The advanced practitioner will then call you back at convenient time for you, assess you over the phone and offer advice. All you have to do to access this service is to phone us on 01620 642 968 on Monday, Tuesday or Friday between 09.00 and 11.30.
MINOR INJURY ASSESSMENT
Call NHS24 on 111 and listen carefully to the options :-
The service is suitable for injuries such as -
* Sprains, strains and suspected broken bones
* Wounds and burns
* Musculo-skeletal conditions (joints, ligaments, muscles, nerves & tendons)
The service is NOT suitable for -
* Injuries from 2 weeks ago or more
* Patients seeking a second opinion
* Emergencies (such as stroke or chest pain)
* Patients less than 1 year old
The assessment will be carried out by a nurse practitioner using secure video consulting software. If the nurse decides you will need to come into the Minor Injuries Clinic , an appointment will be ,made for you.
SUPPORT FOR UNPAID CARERS
Carers of East Lothian are continuing to deliver support over the phone. If you are struggling with a caring situation call 0131 665 0135. There is a carer support worker for new enquiries Mon-Fri 10-4 pm. If no answer immediately leave message with contact details and they will get back to you ASAP or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you need medical attention when we are closed please telephone NHS 24 on 111.
Do not use the outside mail box for samples . Samples must be handed in by 12 NOON. Please press the buzzer at the main door and you will be given further instructions.
Repeat Prescriptions and Test Results
Requests for Repeat Prescriptions or for Test Results will only be taken between 10am and 3pm. If you call outwith these times you will be asked to call back.
Prescriptions can also be ordered by handing your repeat slip into the surgery, at the pharmacy or our website at www.gullanemedicalpractice.co.uk
If the GP needs to speak with you they will call back as soon as they are able but this may be the next day or the next day that doctor is working.
