Cape Hill Medical Centre
Cape Hill Medical Centre Will be closed on Monday 30th August. Other healthcare services, such as pharmacies, may be closed or open with reduced hours.
Please think ahead and ensure you:
Collect prescriptions: Avoid any last minute panic by ordering and collecting your medication well-ahead of time.
Prepare for self-care: Make sure you have basic medicines, such as paracetamol and antihistamine, at home, plus a first-aid kit.
Know the location of your nearest emergency pharmacist: Emergency pharmacists will be available over the bank holiday weekend, providing advice and over-the-counter medication for minor health concerns. A list of pharmacy bank holiday opening times is available here.
Contact NHS 111 for urgent care: If you need urgent medical help, call 111 or visit 111.nhs.uk. NHS 111 is available 24/7 and their team will provide you with the right care for your needs, including booking you an appointment with an out-of-hours GP.
Emergency services are for emergencies only: For life-threatening emergencies, call 999 or go straight to A&E. But, remember that if you arrive with a non-emergency condition, you are likely to be directed to a more appropriate service.

PLEASE READ All of this important announcement:
Thank you to all of our patients for their understanding at this challenging time. Our priority is for the health and safety of all our patients and staff. We are changing the way we work in line with NHS England and Public Health England authorities to minimise the risk of getting this virus. What this means to you:
Coronavirus letters for employers: If you feel you are at risk and have NOT received a letter from NHS Business Services or the Hospital, you will need to speak with your employer who will risk assess you or send you for an occupational health assessment, we cannot give a letter so please DO NOT call the surgery
GP Sick notes and letters for Schools:
Please see the letter attached for information on GP sick notes and letter required for school:
GP Sick Notes and Letters for Schools
Appointments: We are NOT booking any face to face appointments until further notice. All appointments will be telephone appointments only unless a GP or Nurse has spoken to you first. DO NOT COME TO THE SURGERY unless a member of the clinical team have asked you to do so. If/when you telephone the surgery, the receptionist WILL ask what you need to speak to the GP/Nurse about, please respect them and tell them, if you do not then you WILL be refused an appointment. This is in line with our COVID-19 policy of keeping patients and NHS staff safe.
You will also be asked to register to use the BSOL Health app where possible. This is to allow you other options of booking/cancelling appointments if you have the facility to do so.
Prescriptions: DO NOT STOCK PILE MEDICATION. DO NOT order your medication unless your medication is due. If your medication is not due then the prescription request will not be processed.
We are in the process of suspending paper requests to minimise the spread of the virus. We have a dedicated prescription email for you to request your medication. This is prescriptions.chmc@nhs.net and you are asked to include your name, date of birth, address, name and dosage of each item you wish to order. If you do not already have one, include the name and address of the Pharmacy you wish your prescription to go to electronically. If these are not included your prescription will not be processed as we do not have the capacity to respond to individual emails. If you do not have access to emails, please put your prescription request in the box which is situated in the foyer and, if you do not already have one, include the name and address of the Pharmacy you wish your prescription to go to electronically
You will also be asked to register to use the Birmingham and Solihull Health app where possible, This will allow you another option to request your medication.
Sick Notes: Please note that we are not providing sick notes for patients who are self-isolating due to coronavirus symptoms. You can self certify for the first 7 days but if your employer is asking for a note, go to https://111.nhs.uk/isolcation-note where you can get further guidance.
If the GP/Nurse has agreed to provide a sick note these will be emailed to you with an electronic signature or posted to your home address.
PLEASE RESPECT NHS STAFF AT ALL TIMES.
All of our staff members are working very hard in very challenging circumstances and they are working to strict Practice guidelines to keep you and them safe. We ask that you remain courteous to our staff and other patients at all times. Any incidents of verbal or physical abuse will result in removal from the surgery list. This is a very challenging time for all of us and we would appreciate your co-operation during this period of uncertainty.
If you have had a cough or a fever over 37.8 degrees over the past few days or been in contact with someone who is known to have coronavirus, please stay at home for 7 days. If you start to feel worse please follow the advice on the NHS Online advice link https://111.nhs.uk/ or the stay at home policy on the Public Health England website https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance. If you start to feel very unwell quickly, call the surgery on the number above, NHS 111 or dial 999
A general medical practice has been operating from the Cape Hill area for over 50 years. Formerly, the practice was located at 147 Cape Hill, originally the local brewery manager’s home, which became both the home and the surgery of the first GP, Dr Aiken. Since then, the practice has gradually developed to become one of the most comprehensive primary health care teams in greater Birmingham. This has happened on an evolving basis with the single-handed practice becoming a partnership after the war and a group practice establishing itself in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Since the later 70s and through the 80s and 90s, the primary health care team has become reality coupled with professional management and purpose-developed premises. Early in 2001, the practice relocated to a brand new private finance initiative-funded primary care building.
