Community Midwives
Expectant mothers are cared for by a team comprising of community midwives, GPs and hospital doctors. On confirmation of pregnancy the patients are asked to supply the surgery with their up to date details in order that the midwife may contact them to arrange a booking. The midwife will then arrange blood tests, scans and antenatal screening. Should any problems be identified then the patient will be referred to a GP or obstetrician as appropriate. Following delivery the midwife will continue to care for the patient until the 28th Day. Health visitor will contact the patient around the 11th day. If a smear is due then it is suggested that the patient wait until 12 weeks post delivery. This can be performed at the post natal examination. |
