Advanced Nurse Practitioner
Advanced Practitioners can provide treatment and advice for many problems for which you may have seen a doctor for in the past. Their main areas of expertise are in the management of common illnesses and long term conditions. Advanced Practitioners are all trained specialist nurses who have undertaken additional education in order to provide advanced nursing care and prescribe. Same day Advanced Practitioner appointments are available every weekday for common illnesses. You will be offered a consultation with the Advanced Practitioner if you ring for an urgent appointment. The Advanced Practitioner can assess and examine you, make a diagnosis and provide advice and treatment including a prescription if required. They can make referrals to hospital doctors or other health care professionals, and admit patients into hospital when necessary. Unfortunately, they are unable legally to sign a sick certificate, so you will need to see your own GP for this. They work closely with your GP and liaise frequently with her/him about your care.
Practice Nurses
Practice nurses are qualified and registered nurses. They can help with health issues such as family planning, healthy living advice, blood pressure checks and dressings. The practice nurses run clinics for long-term health conditions such as asthma or diabetes, minor ailment clinics and carry out cervical smears. Practice Nurse Lead - Catherine RobinsonI qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1993. I worked as a Community Staff Nurse in North London until moving to Bradford in 2000 where I took a post as a Practice Nurse at a GP surgery in North Bradford. I moved to Horton Park Medical Practice in 2008 and became Lead Nurse in 2012. I specialise in Diabetic Care, in particular with patients on insulin. I also see patients for other aspects of care such as womens health and childhood immunisations. I also oversee the day-to-day running of the Nurse Team. Outside work I enjoy spending time with my two children, listening to a wide-range of music. |
