Our advanced nurse practitioners consult in a similar manner to the doctors. They will see patients with a wide variety of minor illnesses ensuring the doctors have appointments to see more complex issues.

Abdomen - abdominal pain, constipation, Diarrhoea and Vomiting, Indigestion etc.

Nurses
Our practice nursing team provides a wide range of services including diabetic, heart disease, hypertension, asthma and COPD clinics, immunisations and travel vaccination/advice, dressings, cervical smears, ear-syringing, pill checks, blood pressure monitoring and blood tests. They can also advise on a variety of health related issues such as dietary advice, weight reduction and smoking cessation. |

Healthcare assistants support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as phlebotomy (drawing blood), blood pressure measurement and new patient checks. They may act as a chaperone when a patient or doctor requests one. |

The practice manager is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care. |

Downfield Surgery has 9 reception/administrative staff to help book appointments, deal with prescriptions, results etc. |
Reception
Our reception and administrative staff have a demanding job and their aim is to provide an efficient and friendly service. They have been trained to obtain essential information so that the doctors can assess the urgency of any request and they are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the doctors and nurses. |
Community Midwives
Community Midwives provides care during and after pregnancy. Maternity services are no longer provided within the practice. To book your first (booking in appointment) with a midwife please ring 01382 632866. Subsequent appointments can be arranged by ringing 01382 740204. |
Community Nurses
Our team of District Nurses cover all aspects of nursing care in the home for housebound patients. They have a wide variety of nursing experience that ensures our patients receive a high standard of care. They may be contacted by:
