IMPORTANT NOTICE - COVID VACCINATION

 Sandy Lane Surgery has opted into the scheme to administer the COVID vaccine.

 Leyland Primary Care Network – Sandy Lane Surgery, The Village Surgeries Croston & Eccleston, Worden Medical Centre, Moss Side Medical Centre and Central Park Surgery will be joining together to ensure this vaccine is rolled out. The Network are currently administering second vaccinations from Jubilee House.

The Leyland Collaborative

Practices in Chorley & South Ribble are working together in groups to offer weekend, bank holiday & weekday evening appointments for their patients. These additional appointments may be held at another surgery within the Leyland group rather than at Sandy Lane. Please be aware, regardless of the time or location of the appointment, you must ring Sandy Lane in normal opening hours to book or cancel an appointment. The group consists of the following practices

Patient Online Services

We now have nearly 4000 patients who are using our on-line service Patient Access to book appointments, order prescriptions, There is also an option to view your medical record including test results and hospital letters. For more information CLICK HERE

Do you know who your allocated GP is?

As part of our contract we must now inform all patients which GP they are registered with at the surgery. This is simply an administrative task and you are still able to continue seeing the GP of your choice. If you do not know who your allocated GP is, ask someone next time you come to the surgery  - thank you

Are available for minor queries or reviews if you do not need to be physically examined.

Use your Pharmacy for minor ailments

Remember your local pharmacist is trained to treat minor ailments such as coughs and colds, blood pressure checks, constipation, rashes / skin problems and headaches etc. Please ask at your local pharmacy.

NHS Health Checks

We offer NHS Health Checks free of charge to all patients age 40yrs to 74yrs, who are not being monitored in any of our clinics such as the CDM or Diabetic clinics. These NHS Health Checks are done every 5yrs. If you think you qualify for a health check or have not had one in the last 5yrs please contact reception. 

Nurse Practitioners

Jenny Williams. Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) (f)

Jenny

Jenny can see and treat patients in a very similar way to a GP, she can examine you and prescribe medication. Appointments can be made with Jenny as you would with a GP. 

Jenny qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1994 where she trained at Manchester Royal School of Nursing and Midwifery. Since then she has gained an MSc in clinical Practice and now works as an Advanced Nurse Practioner. She has a special interest in musculoskeletal problems and injuries

Jean Morris. Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) (f)

Jean qualified from Nottingham University in 1997 and has worked at Sandy Lane for the past 17 years originally as a Practice Nurse, with extensive experience in chronic disease management and diabetes. In August 2019 Jean completed her master’s degree to become an advanced nurse practitioner.

Jean is an independent prescriber and can see and treat many of the same conditions that a doctor can and can see children over 6 months of age. Jean also works twice a month at the Leyland diabetic Hub seeing complex diabetic patients from within the Leyland area.

Kerry Byrne. (f)

Kerry joined us in 2017, she sees patients in a Kerrysimilar way to a doctor. She is currently training to become an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)

She qualified from Salford University in May 2000 and has worked in emergency departments and walk in centres. Kerry is a nurse Prescriber and has qualifications in clinical examination and assessment of minor injuries and illness.

She is currently employed as a nurse practitioner for on the day urgent appointments for minor ailments only. This is the case on Monday , Wednesday and Thursday.
However as she is currently training, for 2 afternoons a week - Wednesday and Thursday, she will be seeing patients on a more routine basis, with ongoing problems, in the capacity of a trainee ANP and under supervision of the GP or existing ANP.

Tracey

Tracey qualified in 1985 and has been working as a Practice Nurse for the past 27 years. She has qualifications in asthma, COPD, diabetes and a diploma in sexual and reproductive health.

Karen qualified in 1995 and has worked as a practice nurse for the past 12 years. Karen has qualifications in Coronary Heart Disease, Asthma/COPD, Diabetes and Women's Health.

Louise Martin

Louise

Louise qualified as a nurse in 2009 and worked as an acute neurosurgical nurse for 8 years before becoming a practice nurse. She joined Sandy Lane in 2018. She is qualified in cervical cytology and immunisation and is currently working towards qualifications in the management of long term conditions.

Launa Henry

Launa qualified from the University of Central Lancashire in 2011 and joined Sandy Lane in 2018, she previously worked on the coronary care unit for 7 years caring for patients with cardio vascular disease. Launa is passionate about educating and supporting people to manage chronic health conditions.

Katie Holmes (f)

Katie

Katie qualified as an Adult Nurse in 2008. Since qualifying she has worked on an acute medical elderly ward and an intensive developmental therapy unit. After a short sabbatical she then undertook a number of courses for counselling skills to extend her knowledge. She began working at GP practices as a HCA in 2014 and gained the position at Sandy Lane Surgery in 2018. She has recently completed a return to nursing course and has joined the nursing team as a junior nurse.  She will be undertaking further training to develop her general practice nursing skills.

Healthcare Assistants

Colleen Clitheroe

Colleen has worked at the practice as a Medical Receptionist since 2006. She has long expressed a wish to move into the Healthcare Assistants role and we were pleased to be able to accommodate this in 2017. She has completed her care certificate and ongoing training in the different aspects of this role.

Julie Newton (f)

Julie has worked in Healthcare for over 25 years and has gained a lot of experience as a HCA in general practice and secondary care. She is always looking to further her knowledge and skills and attend all courses and study available.

Julie is interested in a healthy lifestyle and keep myself fit and healthy by running, walking and cycling.
