MBBS (1995), BSc (Hons) (1991), MRCGP (1999) , DFSRH (Full-Time GP) Dr Lizzie Guise (formerly Blake) trained at Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine in London, but took time out during her training to complete an additional BSc in Human Genetics at University College London. She completed her GP Training in Lambourn, Berkshire. She gained her Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 1999, passing the exam with Merit. She has worked as a GP in Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Sussex and Kent. Whilst in Kent, she became involved in the education of doctors training as GPs, regularly teaching young doctors in the Out of Hours GP Base. She has been a GP Appraiser in Kent, Sussex and Guernsey (undertaking performance reviews of GP colleagues, and has completed over 150 GP appraisals). She is currently having a break from being an Appraiser, but plans to return to this role in due course.
Dr Guise’s special interests include Women’s Health, Family Planning, Cryotherapy, Joint Injections, Asthma Care, Antenatal Care, Minor Surgery, Teenage Health and Child Health. Her first visit to Jersey was at the age of 16 crewing on the tall ship the Malcolm Miller, as part of her Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. In her Gap Year prior to starting at medical school she worked as an auxiliary nurse in nursing homes, earning the money for her travels, which included Russia, France (most of a season skiing in Meribel), Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil. In the past she was a keen scuba diver (a considerable amount of her spare time whilst at University was spent underwater), and has developed an interest in Diving Medicine over the years. She was a member of St John Ambulance from the age of 11, and in the late 1990’s was regularly one of the duty doctors at events such as Wimbledon Tennis, The London Marathon, Trouping the Colour and many other public events, including Princess Diana’s Funeral. The arrival of 3 children in less than 2 years led to the need to focus more on family life, and her charity work was put on hold for a while. Dr Guise has a 21 year old daughter and 19 year old twin boys. |
Dr Mandy du Feu (f)
BM (2001), MRCGP, DCH, DFSRH (Full Time GP) Mandy grew up in Jersey and attended St Clements School and then Jersey College for Girls. She initially had a finance-based career, but had always dreamed of becoming a doctor and went on to study Medicine at Southampton University, graduating in 2001. Having completed her medical degree, Mandy was certain she wanted to become a GP and continued her postgraduate training with a year in Southampton on a dedicated GP rotation, followed by a year in Basingstoke working in paediatrics and A&E, and she then returned to Jersey for two years, where she worked in obstetrics & gynaecology, psychiatry and acute medicine / elderly care. A twist of fate led to her deciding to work at sea for a while, having been offered a job with a large cruise company. She eventually spent 4 years as a ship’s doctor, working on P&O, Princess and Cunard vessels with up to 4800 passengers and crew under her care at any one time. This provided her with a wealth of useful experience, as well as some very challenging situations, given the remoteness of the ship at times. It was great fun, but having been reunited with her childhood sweetheart during a period of shore leave, she decided the time had come to return to land life! Mandy’s husband and his family live in Guernsey, so after they married, they settled there and she worked in a large busy GP practice, as well as continuing her A&E commitment at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital. They have two sons age 5 & 6 years old. Mandy was keen to return here to be nearer her family, and to settle down as a partner in a small practice. |
