Repeat Prescriptions Requests 

Did you know we process between 1500-1700 prescription item requests a week and we need to manage these safely and efficiently.  You can help us to get your prescription to you in a timely manner by following the guidelines and leaving plenty of time for us to process your request.

Repeat Prescriptions can be requested in the following ways:-

1. Email to:  ciosicb.sunnysideprescriptions@nhs.net 

2. Drop the request to the practice  and post through the outside letterbox not inside the building.

3. Post to the surgery

Whichever way you request your prescriptions please ensure you include the following:

• Full name
• Date of birth
• First line of address
• Name of each medication you require  (small pink tablets, heart tablets, brown inhaler etc is NOT specific enough and is not safe)
• The name of the Pharmacy you would like to collect your prescription from.

Please not that we cannot accept requests over the telephone.  This decision has been taken in the interest of accuracy and patient safety.

Whichever method you choose, please allow  FIVE FULL WORKING DAYS before repeat prescriptions are collected from the Pharmacy of your choice.  This is the time it will take to process prescriptions at the practice and then at the Pharmacy.  Please do not call the Pharmacy to check that the prescription is ready for collection as this is taking up valuable staff time and slowing down the dispensing of prescriptions.    

Due to the increasing number of prescription requests processed daily times it is not possible to generate same-day prescriptions.

Please allow 5 full working days for your request to be checked, processed and signed by the GP before collecting your prescription from the Pharmacy of your choice, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays.    Please use the table below to see when your prescription will be ready for collection.

SUNNYSIDE SURGERY – NEW SERVICE FOR PATIENTS

The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) is an NHS service that Sunnyside Surgery is now offering . It gives you the chance to change how your GP sends your prescription to the pharmacy you choose to get your medicines or appliances from.

What does this mean for you?

If you collect your repeat prescriptions from us you will not have to visit the practice to pick up your paper prescription. Instead, we will send it electronically to the place you choose, saving you time.

You will have more choice about where to get your medicines from because they can be collected from a pharmacy near to where you live, work or shop. 

Is this service right for you?

• Yes, if you have a stable condition and you don’t want to go to come to Sunnyside Surgery every time to collect your repeat prescription.

• Yes , if you collect your medicines from the same place most of the time or use a prescription collection service now.

It may not be if you:

• don’t get prescriptions very often.

• pick up your medicines from different places every time you have a prescription.

How can you use EPS?

You need to choose a place for us to electronically send your prescription to. This is called nomination. You can choose:

a pharmacy.

a dispensing appliance contractor (if you use one).

Just ask us to add your nominated Pharmacy to your computer record. You don’t need a computer to do this.

Can I change my nomination or cancel it and get a paper prescription?

Yes you can. If you don’t want your prescription to be sent electronically just tell us. If you want to change or cancel your nominated Pharmacy just tell us but make sure you tell us before your next prescription is due or your prescription may be sent to the wrong place.

Is EPS reliable, secure and confidential?

Yes. Your electronic prescription will be seen by the same people in GP practices, pharmacies and NHS prescription payment and fraud agencies that see your paper prescription now. Sometimes dispensers may see that you have nominated another dispenser. For example, if you forget who you have nominated and ask them to check or, if you have nominated more than one dispenser. Dispensers will also see all the items on your reorder slip if you are on repeat prescriptions.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.  Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
