Order Your Repeat Prescription Online

Repeat Prescriptionsorange_pills

Patients eligible for repeat prescriptions can order medication in a number of ways:

  • In person - drop your repeat slip in at reception with the required items clearly marked.
  • By post - send it to us with a stamped addressed envelope and we will post it back to you.
  • Online - follow the link at the top of this page and complete a simple one-off registration.
  • Online Form - click here to request
  • Order directly from the chemist - If you are taking regular prescriptions that do not alter, you can select a chemist of your choice to receive your prescriptions for the next year.  You can then order your prescription directly from the chemist if that is more convenient.

In the interests of safety we DO NOT accept requests for repeat prescriptions over the telephone.

Please note that only items appearing on the repeat list will be issued.

Medication Waste

£2million pounds a year is wasted in Bolton partly due to ordering medications that are not used.  Please order only what you need.  If a chemist is ordering on your behalf,  they MUST contact you before ordering your prescription to ensure that they are only ordering what you require.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see the doctor for a review after 6 months supply of medication have been issued. Notification should appear on your repeat slip.

Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

Pharmacy Nomination

Prescriptions can be sent electronically to a pharmacy of your choice, ask at reception if you would like for this to be set up. Either call into the surgery or call 01204 521 061. Find out more here.

Medication Queries

If you have a query regarding your medication, please either call into the surgery or call 01204 521 061 to either discuss with reception or a clinician.

48_hours

Please allow two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.  Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.90
  • 3-month PPC: £32.05
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £114.50
  • Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) PPC costs £19.80 and will save you money if you need more than 2 prescribed qualifying HRT items in a year

(updated as of 04/07/2024)

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

  • Telephone advice and order line 0845 850 0030
  • General Public - Buy or Renew a PPC On-line

There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website

PHARMACY

Pharmacy Nomination

If you get regular prescriptions or are already using a prescription collection service (where a pharmacy collects prescriptions from your GP practice for you) then choosing a pharmacy to dispense all your prescriptions may save you time by avoiding unnecessary trips to your GP.

You will still order your repeat prescriptions in the same way as you do now, but your prescriptions will be sent electronically to the pharmacy or dispenser of your choice.

You will not have to collect a paper repeat prescription from your GP practice. Paper prescriptions will continue to be available in special circumstances, but almost all prescriptions will be processed electronically.

How to set up?

If you would like to set up a pharmacy nomination, you can do so by either calling reception on 01204 521 061 or call into the surgery and ask at reception. If you already pick up regular prescriptions at a pharmacy, you can ask if they are able to set you up as a nominated pharmacy.

How to cancel a primary nomination?

You can change or cancel your choice of dispenser at any time. Call reception on 01204 521 061 or speak to reception before you order your next prescription.

You should allow time for the update to take place to avoid your next prescription being sent to the wrong place.
