Prescription Service at JRB
Ordering medications
Where ever and whenever possible, we would ask patients to please register for online services to request medication. This will help our phone line to be kept free for those who want to call us for appointments and emergencies
- NHS app- more information via Requesting repeat prescriptions - NHS Digital
- System one online – the reception can help register you for this
- Email us at ncccg.jrbprescriptionrequests@nhs.net – please leave a contact number to call back. We will not accept any attachments due to risk of virus.
- Paper requests – DON’T ORDER EVERYTHING, ORDER WHAT YOU NEED.
- Requests through the pharmacy – allow enough time for the processing times of both the pharmacy and extra 48 hours for us.
Nominate your Pharmacy
our preference is to send your prescriptions electronically to the pharmacy you have already nominated, or the pharmacy nearest to your home address if a nomination has not been made.
We can change the pharmacy if you would like us to send your medication to a different pharmacy, even if this this is just for a one off. This can be any community pharmacy across the UK.
Electronic Repeat Dispensing
Patients with long term medical conditions and those who collect medication on a regular basis will be automatically switched to electronic repeat dispensing. This allows the practice to issue batches of prescriptions to your nominated pharmacy, removing the need for the pharmacy or patient to order every 28/56 days.
All regular medications are put on repeat dispensing. Please note controlled drugs will not be able to be repeat dispensed.
Variable usage medications or those which you order when required (sprays, creams, inhalers, occasional use of laxatives or pain killers) will only be issued on demand. So please request it two working days before you need then. If you need a set amount of these medications every month then please let our staff members know and we can put this on repeat dispensing.
Please do not order ‘just in case’ medication or to ‘stockpile’ medication, as this causes huge problems to supply of medication, and can leave other patients without medicines they need right now. DON’T ORDER EVERYTHING, ORDER WHAT YOU NEED.
This will save our NHS a lot of money which is currently being wasted on medication.
If you have any suggestions that may help improve the situation, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Quantity of medication
Patients will no longer receive more than 3 months medication. This is to help the community pharmacies maintain adequate stock levels for all patients. If you are going to be staying out of the area, for more than 3 months, then you will have to register with a local doctor. In the UK you can register as a temporary resident.
Medications will be issued in the multiples of 28 days. This helps us look at your medication usage and compliance and plan your reviews.
Electronic Prescribing - NO PAPER PRESCRIPTIONS
How does it work?
https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/pharmacies-gp-practices-and-appliance-contractors/prescribing-and-dispensing/electronic-repeat-dispensing-erd
If you collect repeat prescriptions you will not have to visit your GP practice just to pick up your paper prescription. Instead, your GP will send the prescription electronically to the pharmacy of your choice, saving you time.
The prescription is an electronic message so there is no paper prescription to lose. The system reduces prescription fraud and duplicate dispensing. You will have more choice about where to get your medicines from because they can be collected from a pharmacy near to where you live, work or shop. Or you can choose an online pharmacy, who will deliver your medication.
If the prescription needs to be cancelled the GP can electronically cancel and issue a new prescription without you having to return to the practice – saving you extra trips. You may not have to wait as long at the pharmacy as your repeat prescriptions can be made ready before you arrive. Check this with your pharmacy
Prescriptions will still take 48 hours to be processed and will be sent to your nominated pharmacy.
What do you have to do?
Nominate your choice of pharmacy
If your pharmacy hasn’t got the medication you can get it form a different pharmacy without going through the GP. Is any problems then call the GP practice and we will send the barcode to your and you can use the script anywhere else.
It's as simple as that!
