NHS patients with a GP surgery in the UK
If you become unwell whilst temporarily away from home you can receive emergency treatment from the local GP practice for 14 days.
If you are in the area for up to 3 months, you can be registered as a temporary patient. This will allow you to be on the local practice list and still remain a patient at your usual surgery. After three months you will be automatically removed from our lists. Access to routine medication and treatment is limited for temporary patients.
To register as a temporary patient simply contact the practice local to you. Practices do not have to accept you as a temporary patient although they do have an obligation to offer emergency treatment, if they have capacity. You cannot register as a temporary patient at a practice in the town or area where you are already registered.
