When you need medical help urgently and you cannot wait for an appointment to see your doctor but it’s not an emergency, please dial 1–1–1 when it’s less urgent than 999. You can ring the free 1-1-1 service at anytime, day or night from any landline or mobile phones only when surgery is closed.
The NHS 111 is new telephone services to access local NHS Healthcare services which run by a team of trained advisors and nurses who can help you by asking you questions and assess the your situation and take appropriate action over the phone. This could simply be by offering advice or where necessary by making arrangements for you to be seen by a doctor.
Out-of-hours services are generally busy so please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.
In a genuine emergency you should call 999. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.
