When We Are Closed

If you or your family need urgent medical care when the surgery is closed, please phone the usual daytime surgery number and your call will be re-directed to the out-of-hours service.

Your needs will be assessed and you will either be given advice or arrangements will be made for you to be seen by a healthcare professional.

Out of hours services on weekdays, weekends and on bank holidays, are provided by NEMS.

If you require health information or advice, you may:

• Think before you dial 999. Call 111 when less urgent. 
• Visit The NHS Urgent Care Centre:  Seaton House, London Road, (next to BBC) between 07.00am and 21.00pm.

A recorded telephone message provides this information when the surgery is closed.

Other sources of help/advice

Your local pharmacy can also offer advice, and treatment if required, for a range of minor ailments.

Under the Pharmacy First scheme, if you are exempt from prescription charges you will be able to get the same medicines the GP would have prescribed free of charge for head lice, temperature/fever, earache, teething pain and pain relief for toothache.

Out-of-hours services are generally busy so please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.

Accident & Emergency Department

A&E Departments deal with Life Threatening conditions:

Chest Pains and / or shortness of breath, loss of consciousness, severe bleeding, scalds and burns and severe allergic reactions constitute an emergency
