Acutely Ill Children

At Alvanley Family Practice, we understand how worrying it can be when a child is poorly, particularly when they are acutely unwell.  For this reason, if you ring up the surgery about a child under 16 years of age who you feel is acutely ill, we will arrange to see the child that day.

If there are no appointments free that day, the on-call GP will be notified of your concerns and will make a decision where an appointment can be added on to the clinic in progress or may arrange a home visit or, if appropriate, may do a telephone triage with you to ascertain whether it is advice that can be given over the phone or if the child needs to be seen in person.

In emergency situations, for example, where the child has breathing difficulties, is choking, has stopped breathing, has a rash that doesn't disappear when pressed with a glass, or appears to need imediate medical attention, it may be more appropriate to call 999 or to take the child to A&E.doctorbaby

Out of practice hours, please phone the practice number and you will be connected to the Out-of-Hours service for help.
