DNAs (Did Not Attend) Appointment Figures for SEPTEMBER 2023

Our 'on the day' appointments for Acute problems run at 15 minutes per appointment and are only bookable from 8am on the day the appointment is made. For SEPTEMBER 2023, this equates to 4 Hours worth of wasted appointments on the day.

The figures for GP DNA appointments includes telephone consultations where the patient has not answered their phone after 2 or more attempts by the clinician. Telephone consultations are bookable slots under 10/15 minute appointments and form part of the practice access for appointments, as clinicians must have the time booked in order to deal with problems over the telephone as well as face to face.

Did Not Attends cost the NHS around £30 per appointment. For 2022 this amounted to an estimate of £421 million across the UK.

There are various ways your appointment can be cancelled if you no longer require it such as:

- Texting "CANCEL" to your appointment reminder message
- Cancelling via NHS App / Patient Access
- Informing Reception via Telephone or Reception desk

Appointments must be cancelled at least 1 hour in advance, so that the appointment may be given to another patient.

It is practice policy that if any appointment is not attended on more than 3 occasions, the patient will be struck off from the practice register.
