Appointments are available from 8am through 6pm Monday to Friday (excluding Public & Bank Holidays). Some pre-bookable evening appointments are available from 6.30pm - 8.00pm Monday to Thursday. Access to the practice after 6.30pm is only available to pre-booked appointments, no other services are available after 6.30pm. Staff are not able to access the Dispensary after 6.30pm.
Appointments are for pre-bookable non-urgent appointments and are available between 6.30pm and 8pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 12pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Appointments will also be available on bank holidays and across the Easter, Christmas and New Year periods
You are able to book an appointment in the following ways:
At the main surgery in person
By telephoning 01775 715 999
Book an appointment with your own GP online using SystmOnline
We work as a team at the centre offering the first available appointment with the most appropriate clinical professional (for the problem you are presenting with at the time you request the appointment), this may not always be a Doctor. Genuine emergencies and patients who need immediately necessary treatment will always be seen on the same day.
Making an appointment with another clinical professional such as a Health Care Assistant, or Nurse does not mean you are unable to see, or are being prevented from seeing a Doctor. If the problem or request you are presenting with needs GP investigation or input, this will be available.
Appointments for test results
You do not normally need to make an appointment to discuss test results unless you have been explicitly told you need to do so. The results line is available on 01775 715 995 - the results line is open between 13:00 and 15:00 Monday to Friday (13:30 to 15:00 on Wednesdays), test results are not available outside of these times. Please note that you will no longer be contacted if results such as x-rays, smears and blood tests are normal. We WILL contact you should any of these show anything abnormal.
Patients are registered with the practice and assigned to a GP within the practice. Whenever possible if your care requires you see a Doctor, we will try to make sure that you see the Doctor you are assigned to ensure continuity of care.
If you are due a blood test please contact the surgery and we will print off your blood test form for you to collect.
Open Access or 'Sit & Wait' Surgery
There is no open access or 'sit and wait' surgery for patients who attend the surgery.
Need to be seen the same day?
If you wish to be seen on the day and you do not have a pre-booked appointment, we strongly recommend you phone the surgery first on 01775 715999 after 08.00 and you will be appointed appropriately with a Triage Nurse, an Advanced Skills Nurse or an Advanced Paramedic Practitioner for assessment. You will not be able to make an appointment directly to see your own GP on the day as a rule, but you may be able to secure an appointment for the following day with your own GP.
Patients requesting to be seen on the same day will be seen by the clinician most appropriate to the presenting problem you have; therefore the receptionist WILL ask you for a brief outline of the issue. This is to help you and to ensure you are seen by the most appropriate clinician on the day. All staff in the surgery whether administrative or clinical are bound by confidentiality. If you are unable to provide details you will be offered an appointment within the following day or two.
On the day appointments will not necessarily be with a Doctor in the first instance; but the clinician you do see has access to the Duty Doctor each day all day and will seek advice as required. You may be referred to the Duty Doctor following this initial assessment.
We do not operate a “sit and wait to be seen” system; the medical centre is not a walk-in centre.
Those patients requiring appointments that are not urgent for the day and are not acute will be appointed to specific clinics with the correct clinicians; a Health Care Assistant; triage nurse; specialist nurses; one of our Advanced Skills Nurses or Advanced Paramedic Practitioner. For a routine appointment with your own Doctor, you will most likely be appointed within the next 7 working days.
If you do need to be seen on the day and are assessed in the first instance by a clinician you may then be seen by the Duty Doctor for the day if so recommended by the assessing clinician. This Duty Doctor may not be your own Doctor and this will be a different doctor each day of the week. Should you then need a routine Doctor appointment thereafter you will revert to seeing your usual Doctor. If you are requesting, and are offered an on the day appointment you will be offered the first available appointment in the morning or afternoon session of that day. Although we will try to be accommodating, it is not always possible to make an appointment in the very specific and narrow times that a patient might request.
Sometimes the issue you want to be resolved does not necessarily require a face to face appointment. Medication reviews, medication queries, updates regarding investigations and results and fit notes to cover sickness from work may sometimes be dealt with by other departments in the building or in telephone consultations. Not all situations need a face to face appointment but our receptionists are here to help and will try their best to direct you most appropriately and expediently.
Please note it is not the responsibility of the surgery to arrange transport to/from the practice or any hospital or healthcare facility you may need to visit for treatment/assessment. A voluntary car scheme is available for visits to the surgery or hospital.
We regularly monitor the number of wasted appointments (called a"DNA" which means"did not attend").
Please ensure that you cancel any appointment that you cannot make as soon as you are aware you will be unable to make it. The sooner you are able to cancel, the more likely it is we can offer the appointment to someone else who can use it. You can cancel appointments by ringing the main practice number 01775 715999 at any time and picking option 1.
We reserve the right to remove a patient from the list for patients who continually fail to attend pre-booked appointments without cancelling in good time beforehand, or without any other reason.
Thank you for working with us to avoid wasted appointments.
