Living in North Cumbria

Would you like to discover the best kept secret in the country? Then come and live, work and play in North, East and West Cumbria home to some of the most beautiful scenery the country has to offer and discover why so many of our Post Graduate Doctors in Training stay on.

We are located close to the heart of the North West Lake District, with training practices in both rural and urban locations within the Lake District National Park, the West Cumbrian coast, the beautiful Eden Valley, Hadrian's Wall country and the Scottish Borders. Our urban areas comprise two geographically separate population clusters, one in and around the City of Carlisle and the other in the Whitehaven/Workington area on the West coast of Cumbria.

The area provides exceptional outdoor facilities for many activities, but also has much to appeal to those with other interests. Carlisle is the “Border city” steeped in Roman history and Whitehaven is an historic Georgian port and one of the first post-renaissance planned towns. Housing costs are very reasonable and traffic is generally light. There is a great sense of community in our small towns and villages and many good schools making North Cumbria an excellent place to raise a family. For those who enjoy the bright city lights, Carlisle provides all the facilities of a modern city and there are good transport links by train or road from Carlisle to the nearby cities of Newcastle, Glasgow and Edinburgh. There is ready access to the motorway network via the M6.
