The Surgery:

When you are feeling unwell, have any on-going illnesses or need advice in managing your long-term condition.

Our Triage System:

If you have an urgent need to see a clinician on the day, we have emergency appointments.  However, these are only accessed via our triage system, where either a GP or Advanced Nurse Practitioner will call you back to discuss your needs and decide whether an appointment, visit or another approach is required.

Practice Pharmacist

We now have a Practice Pharmacist, and some telephone calls and appointments may be with our pharmacist if it is more appropriate for your needs.

Minor Injuries

For injuries that require urgent attention but are not critical or life-threatening.  We will see the following conditions at Frome Valley Medical Centre during our normal opening hours:

• Sprains and strains
• Cuts and grazes
• Suspected minor fractures
• Minor burns and scalds
• Bites
• Minor eye injuries
• Minor head injuries

There are also Minor Injuries Units at Yate Westgate Centre or Southmead Hospital which are open for longer hours than the surgery.

A&E or 999

These services provide urgent treatment for serious, life-threatening conditions.

NHS 111

If the surgery is closed and you can't wait until morning (or Monday if it is the weekend), and you think you need urgent care, call 111.  This number is free to call and is available 24 hours a day.  Call 111 if:

• You need medical help fast but it is not a 999 emergency, e.g. life-threatening condition or illness.
• You think you need to go to A&E or need another NHS urgent care service.
• You don't know who to call
• You need health or medical information about what to do next.

Your Local Pharmacist

Your pharmacist can give you advice for many common minor illnesses, such as diarrhoea, sickness, minor infections, headache, travel advice or sore throats.

Self-Care

Keeping well stocked medicine cabinet at home can help you treat many minor ailments.
