Health Promotion Clinics and Other Medical Services
Various clinics, previously detailed are held on a regular basis and include:
- Child Health - At each clinic there is a Health Visitor who will provide guidance and support regarding child care as well as general health information. A Doctor is also present to carry out developmental assessments. The clinic is a well baby clinic and if a child is unwell, they should be seen by their Doctor.
- Postnatal
- Antenatal
- Diabetic - We aim to achieve good control of diabetes and prevent complications by providing regular check ups and education. The clinics are run on a monthly basis for annual reviews. The clinic is run with the assistance of a Practice Nurse, Doctor, Chiropodist and Dietician.
- Cryotherapy Clinic
Family Planning
All Doctors will offer confidential advice during normal surgery times on all aspects of contraception. Coil fitting is available.
Emergency Contraception
For emergency contraception advice, you need to see a doctor as soon as possible, and not more than 72 hours after having unprotected sex.
Phlebotomy Blood tests
The Phlebotomist will take blood samples only on a Monday and Friday morning. To qualify for this service, patients must be either Diabetic or over 70 years old.
Adult Immunisations and Vaccinations
Please contact the Practice Nurse for advice and vaccination against Influenza, Tetanus, Travel and Holidays.
Flu Vaccinations
These are available each autumn for people over 65 and those with certain medical conditions such as chronic (long-term) chest problems, diabetes and heart disease.
Travel Immunisations
The practice nurses can give advice on immunisations for travel abroad. Please arrange an appointment well before your travel date.
Cervical Smear Tests
It is recommended that all women between the ages of 20 and 65 years have a cervical smear test every three years. You will receive a reminder from the All Wales Cytology Service when your smear is due and it is important that you attend for regular smear tests. Appointments specified as cervical smear requests can be made with the Practice Nurse.
If you do not wish to receive an invitation for a smear you will need to contact the All Wales Cytology Service, 36 Orchard St, Swansea Tel: 458066 and also ask us for a form to complete to exclude you from our recall.
Minor Operations
The Doctors carry out minor surgery in our well equipped treatment room. Such surgery includes the removal of cysts and warts and is usually arranged in consultation with your Doctor.
Joint Injections
There are doctors in the practice able to provide more specialist care. After routine assessment, if appropriate, the doctor can offer joint injections to relieve discomfort.
Mental Health Liaison Nurse
Community based Mental Health Liaison Nurse is based at the Medical Centre. She is linked to the Psychiatry service. Referrals are made by the Doctors.
