Smears update

During the initial phase of the response to COVID-19, a lot of routine screening appointments were postponed. Our Nicholstown site is now open for booked appointments. We have restarted routine smear appointments for patients and are working through the backlog in the order of when they are due. The surgery will contact you when it's time to book yourself in.

Change in organ donation law in England

The law around the donating of organs in England has now changed. The system in England is now an "opt in" system rather than an "opt out" system. You still have a choice about whether you wish to become an organ donor and your religious, cultural and personal wishes will be respected. You should make your family aware of your wishes. Recycling your inhalers? - Green Impact For Health

It's important that we all do our bit for the environment. Solent GP Surgery is working towards obtaining accreditation from the Royal College of GP's Green Impact for Health scheme to improve our environmental impact.

You too can help.

Do you have inhalers at home? Some inhalers release gasses called hydroflurocarbons into the atmosphere and account for nearly 4% of the entire NHS greenhouse gas footprint. You can recycle your inhalers and help to mitigate the environmental impact of inhalers.

Visit https://pharmacyfinder.completethecycle.eu/index to find your local pharmacy that is participating in recycling inhalers.

Changes to prescribing for minor conditions

"Why can't I get a prescription for paracetamol?"

The guidance on prescribing medications for conditions that can be treated with over the counter medications has changed. Many of these medications can be bought easily at the pharmacy or your local supermarket. For more information see this handy leaflet
