Covid boosters and flu vaccinations update
The Covid booster programme has now started. The service is delivered from Jameson House (RG24 8AG) and will work through the priority groups as happened with the initial vaccinations, starting at group 1 and finishing with group 9. There are 3 different ways that your Covid vaccine booster will be booked in North Hampshire.
- By a direct text from our service inviting you to book
- By you booking through the dedicated advice line - call 0333 332 0855 between 10am and 4pm on weekdays to book
- By you calling 119, as the service is now registered on the National Booking Service
All of the booster vaccinations will take place at Jameson House. Note that there has to be a gap of at least six months between your second dose of the Covid vaccine and your booster dose.
If you are over 65, we will aim to give a flu jab at the same appointment. if you have your flu jab elsewhere, we cannot give you the booster until at least 7 days later.
If you haven't had a Covid vaccine so far you can always have this at our site. Please call the dedicated advice line (see 2 above) and we will organise this for you.
Finally, please note that vaccination of 12-15 years olds is happening through the school nursing service and is separate to the booster programme.
Vaccines remain our best protection against Covid 19 and will help to keep both you and those close to you safe.
Blood bottles update (17.9.21)
The shortage of blood bottles seems to be easing, but the practice has been asked to prioritise any outstanding tests to avoid an unmanageable increase in demand. If you would like to know more, the letter from NHS England is here.
Disruption in supply of blood bottles (27.8.21)
There is currently an international shortage of blood bottles used for taking samples and clinicians working in GP practices, hospitals, community and mental health trusts and ambulance trusts have been asked to suspend non-essential blood tests.
Our clinicians and managers in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are working together to be more efficient. We will ensure we don't waste blood bottles and that we don't duplicate tests which have already been done. We are being thoughtful about which tests are ordered and prioritising those tests which will have an immediate impact on the diagnosis or treatment.
Our clinicians and their teams are working hard to prioritise our blood tests and we appreciate your patience whilst we put in place systems to manage this difficulty safely.
We would like to reassure all our patients that this disruption in supply should not affect any essential blood tests and any tests that are delayed will be rescheduled as soon as possible. We are working closely with NHS England to follow their guidance. We will continue to provide you with updates regarding this and thank you for your support.
Update on the Covid booster and flu arrangements
A message from Dr Tim Cooper
The covid vaccination programme in North Hampshire has successfully delivered vaccines to our adult and more recently young adult population. The practices in North Hampshire have worked together through our site at Jameson house in Chineham (and previously the Hampshire Court Hotel) to do this.
As we move into Autumn, we start to prepare for a covid booster vaccination for those at greater risk. Current indications are that we will be offering a covid booster vaccine to our cohorts 1-9 (the over 50 and those with underlying health conditions). Importantly it is likely that we will be giving these covid boosters at least six months after your last vaccine and this will begin in September and run through until the new Year.
Many of our patients will also be due to receive flu vaccines around the same time as they would do every year from their home practice.
As we begin to start to welcome our patients back for their covid booster we are also planning to give them their flu jab at the same time at the same visit. The JCVI, who review the evidence for vaccination, support giving the two vaccines at the same time.
Therefore we can announce that if you are over 65 you will be receiving your flu jab at the same time as your covid booster appointment.
If you are under 65 you will likely be invited to a flu clinic sooner than when you would be due your covid booster and therefore your home practice will be organising a flu clinic for you as normal.
There are many benefits that we would see for giving the flu and covid vaccinations for our over 65s at the same time:
- A single visit for our over 65 patients to our site to receive both vaccinations
- Supporting practices by administering the flu vaccines on their behalf
- Sharing of flu vaccine between practices to reach those who are most vulnerable and ensuring we do this as quickly as we can.
We know that some patients will be used to and expecting to have their flu jab at their home practice. The North Hampshire Clinical directors feel by combining the flu and covid vaccines together this is the best way we can support our patients to get their vaccines efficiently and safely, whilst ensuring we can continue to deliver our normal primary care services to you without interruption. The success of the initial vaccination programme was due to the practices working together to deliver it. By working together for the booster campaign we aim to replicate the very high uptake of vaccination and positive experience our patients have had through our site at Jameson House.
Continuing infection control measures within the NHS
While COVID restrictions will end in many settings in England from 19 July, everyone visiting hospitals, GP practices, dentists, optometrists and pharmacies must continue to wear a face covering and follow social distancing rules, unless they are unable to do so for medical reasons.
This will help to ensure the safety of our patients, visitors and staff, especially those who are more vulnerable to infection. Thank you.

General Practice Data for Planning and Research
Under data protection law we must tell you about how we use your personal information. This includes the personal information that we share with other organisations and why we do so. Our main GP practice privacy notices can be found by following the General Data Protection Regulation at the foot of this page. This additional privacy notice provides details about the personal information that we are required to share with NHS Digital for its General Practice Data for Planning and Research data collection. There is an associated transparency notice and details of how to opt out are here. Your individual care will not be affected if you choose to opt out. At present, we understand that the new scheme will start from 1st September 2021.
Proof of Covid vaccination
The practice is not able to provide you with a letter that shows your COVID-19 vaccination status. From 17 May 2021, people in England who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can demonstrate their vaccination status for international travel. A full course is currently two doses of any approved vaccine. Vaccine status will be available from:
- the NHS App which you can download from app stores
- the NHS website
We are advised that it may take more than a week for your identity to be checked and verified so you can use these services. If you cannot access these online services, and you have had 2 vaccines, you can request a paper letter from the NHS by calling 119. Only call 119 if you had your second dose more than 5 working days ago. It may take 7 working days for the letter to arrive. When you're planning your travel, check the latest information on demonstrating your COVID-19 status when travelling abroad on the gov.uk website. In your own interests, please ensure that there is time to get proof of your vaccination status before you leave.

Healthwatch Hampshire is asking people what matters to them when it comes to health and social care
Healthwatch Hampshire is running a health priorities survey to find out what matters to the people of Hampshire when it comes to health and social care services for this year.
Now that there is a road map out of the pandemic, and the vaccine roll-out is well under way, they want to know what matters to people when it comes to health and social care services across the County.

Coronavirus vaccination update (18.1.21)
Across the county our NHS teams – supported by a brilliant network of volunteers – are engaged in a huge effort to vaccinate the first two priority groups before the government’s target date of mid-February. That means delivering a first dose to protect the over-80s, care home residents and staff, and frontline NHS staff. There is a high degree of confidence that we have the capacity and resources in place to reach this target across all parts of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, and we are building up pace all the time. Whilst we experienced some issues with supply of the vaccine last week, we expect this to be much improved from this week onwards with more deliveries of the vaccine across the area.
This week (Monday 18 January) it was also announced that people aged 70 and over and those who are listed as clinically extremely vulnerable will now also start receiving invitations to have the vaccination. Vaccinating the first two groups will remain the priority but vaccination sites which will have enough supply and capacity for vaccinating further people are allowed to offer vaccinations to the next two cohorts. We know that, for some people, this announcement has caused concern that they (or their relatives) who are in the over-80s category may have been missed. Please be assured that our focus absolutely remains on reaching the initial priority groups first.
We are also delighted to be able to say that care home residents are being offered their vaccine already, and that we are now rapidly scaling up the effort to reach people who are housebound.
We understand patients' concerns and the frustration they feel when there is a vaccine and they can't get access to it. As soon as we have stock we will be contacting eligible patients directly to organise these appointments. We will be working through the priority list as set out above. Unfortunately, we are unable to say when individual groups will be receiving their vaccination as this is entirely dependent on national availability of stock and when this is apportioned to us: we do not have any control over this.
Local delivery of the vaccination programme
Across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight our residents will be invited in one of three ways to have a vaccination:
- Using a local GP service: GP practices are working together across the county to vaccinate as many people as possible.
- Local hospital services: Patients may be contacted to have the vaccination as an inpatient or outpatient.
- At a vaccination centre: These are due to go live shortly. If a person lives within 30 to 45 minutes of a vaccination centre, and haven’t already been vaccinated, they may have received a letter asking them to book an appointment online at www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination. If they can’t access the NHS website they can call 119 free. If a person would prefer to be vaccinated by their local GP practice or vaccination centre, as explained in the letter, they can wait to be contacted by their GP or try the website again later as sites are being added as they become available.
Coronavirus vaccination - message from Dr Tim Cooper (5.1.21)
As many of our patients will know, the vaccination delivery is based at the Hampshire Court Hotel and is a collaboration between all practices in North Hampshire.
This decision was taken as it means we can continue to offer as much normal general practice services as possible during the pandemic from people's home surgeries. The vaccinations can only be done at a minimum of Primary Care Network (PCN) level, not practice level. Other areas may be utilising individual practice sites but we opted against doing so as it would have meant entirely closing one of our general practices to give it over to vaccinations, which we all felt reduced access to our normal services and would cause more problems, particularly as this programme is likely to last at least into the Spring.
We are set up and established now at the Hampshire Court Hotel and are awaiting further vaccine. When we are able to run at full capacity we will be able to vaccinate 6000+ people a week. Vaccine supply is the rate limiting step here and we are ready to increase the availability of vaccine to our population as soon as we have it.
As you may also know we are following the guidelines set out about which groups we will be working through as per the national Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).
Their priority list is as follows:
1. residents in a care home for older adults and their carers
2. all those 80 years of age and over and frontline health and social care workers
3. all those 75 years of age and over
4. all those 70 years of age and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals
5. all those 65 years of age and over
6. all individuals aged 16 years to 64 years with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality
7. all those 60 years of age and over
8. all those 55 years of age and over
9. all those 50 years of age and over
The first two groups in the above list for Whitewater Loddon PCN number around 2500 people.
I understand our patients' concerns and the frustration they feel when there is a vaccine and they can't get access to it. I would reassure them that as soon as we have stock we will be contacting eligible patients directly to organise these appointments. We will be working through the priority list as set out above. Unfortunately I am unable to say when individual groups will be receiving their vaccination as this is entirely dependent on national availability of stock and when this is apportioned to us, we do not have any control over this.
In the meantime please keep safe and follow the government guidelines in place.

All patients at Chineham Medical Practice have a named, accountable GP who is responsible for their overall care at the practice. Your named GP has been allocated to you by the practice
If you wish to know which GP has been allocated to you, please ask reception at your next visit. Please do not telephone the practice for this information, our phone lines are very busy and primarily are for patients with urgent needs.
You can still talk to or make appointments to see any of our doctors or nurses, not just your named GP.
New patients will be given their named accountable GP at the point of registration by the receptionist.
If you are 75 and over you will have already been allocated a GP.
