Face Masks Update

Dear Patients,

Mask wearing guidance and social distancing measures will change from 19th July 2021 as per government guidelines announced recently. We must stress however that the same guidance suggests caution and recommends ongoing wearing of masks in closed spaces, small and crowded areas and where vulnerable people will be present.

National guidance also outlines NHS patients, staff and visitors must continue to wear face coverings in healthcare settings. As you will often be in close proximity to our clinicians and potentially other vulnerable patients when you come to us, we will continue to ask patients to wear masks on our premises and practice social distancing until further notice. This is to minimise disruption to our service and ensure those most vulnerable are still protected when accessing care.

Thank you for your understanding.

New campaign video from the IGPM calls for end to abuse from patients

The Institute of General Practice Management has launched a new campaign to end all abuse towards general practice staff.

They have produced an impactful video which contains real-life examples of patient interactions from practices across the UK. These include:

  • GP staff whose tyres were slashed by a patient who had not been able to get an appointment that day;
  • A receptionist with Chinese heritage, who received racist abuse and was spat on in relation to the Covid-19 virus;
  • Daily verbal threats including the common phrase: “If I die, it will be your fault”.

The survey of 571 GP practice managers showed that 83% have had to remove a patient from the surgery due to multiple incidents towards their team. Much abuse goes unreported and national annual data on physical assaults against NHS staff are no longer published. The ‘If I die it will be your fault’ campaign aims to raise awareness of the zero-tolerance approach to abuse and encourage all practice staff to feel confident about reporting incidents.

The campaign video can be found here, with practices up and down the country joining forces to share the message that abuse towards practice staff must stop.

Demonstrating your Covid Vaccination status when travelling abroad

From 17 May 2021, people in England who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can demonstrate their vaccination status for international travel. A full course is currently two doses of any approved vaccine. Vaccine status will be available from:

If you cannot access these online services, and you have had 2 vaccines, you can request a paper letter from the NHS by calling 119. Only call 119 if you had your second dose more than 5 working days ago. It may take 7 working days for the letter to arrive.

This practice is not able to provide you with a letter that shows your COVID-19 vaccination status.

When you're planning your travel, check the latest information on demonstrating your COVID-19 status when travelling abroad on the gov.uk website. Make sure there is time to get proof of your vaccination status before you leave.

Help the Fight Against COVID-19

Join a COVID-19 clinical trial

The PRINCIPLE trial aims to find treatments that reduce hospital admission and improve symptoms for people with COVID-19. You could be eligible to join if

  • You have had these symptoms for fewer than 15 days:
    • a continuous new or worsening cough
    • a high temperature
  • You are aged 50 to 64 with a pre-existing illness
  • You are aged 65 and above

Changes to Electronic Prescriptions

We are upgrading to the next phase of the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) which will mean that almost all our prescriptions will be processed electronically from the end of March 2020. Electronic prescriptions help save the NHS money. You will receive your prescriptions in the same way as you do now.

Read more about EPS on the NHS website.

We recommend that you nominate a pharmacy so that any medication you request can be sent electronically to your pharmacy of choice. This can be done at any pharmacy; simply ask at the counter. If you do not have a nominated pharmacy, you will be given a 'token' which will replace printed prescriptions. Tokens look very similar to printed prescriptions but do not have a signature. You will need to continue to order and collect repeat prescription tokens from us in the same way that you order and collect repeat prescriptions. Once you have received a token, you will need to take it to a pharmacy so that they can download your medication request by using the barcode printed on the token.
