Covid Vaccine Spring Boosters

This campaign has not started yet.

We hope to offer a local service for those over 75 and eligible immunosuppressed in the first week of April if we can access the Health Centre.

If you do not want to wait please call 119 to book if you are eligible.

We will update this page as more information is available.

Thank you

Push Doctor

We are now providing video consultations with the leading online GP provider, Push Doctor. You may be offered this service instead of an appointment with a GP at the surgery if you have the appropriate technology.

https://www.pushdoctor.co.uk

The practice remains open as normal for telephone and face-to-face consultations if preferred.

FLOODING 21.2.2022

The practice is now fully open and all road access is also open including the bridge.

Dispensary is now open for prescription collections on Saturday morning each week 8.30-12.00.

We are working hard to try to maintain services as normal, please excuse our appearance as we dry the building out and repair.

Thank you

My Planned Care

This site has been set up by NHS England to allow patients and their families to see average wait times by department if they have been referred for a hospital outpatient appointment.

The hospital teams are working with significant backlogs and the website will soon have information about managing your symptoms whilst waiting to be seen.

Covid Restrictions Update - February 2022

Throughout the pandemic we have worked hard to make the surgery as safe as possible for all our patients and staff. We will continue to do do going forward.

Although restrictions generally are removed from the 24th February nothing will change at the practice - patients will still need to wear a mask unless medically exempt, socially distance and use hand sanitiser. Staff will continue to wear PPE. We do understand that this can be frustrating but we know when people come to us they are sick and vulnerable (and some cannot receive the covid vaccine for medical reasons) so we feel it would be wrong to not take these small precautions that can protect people.

In terms of opening up, as many of you know, we have never been shut and in fact have consulted with higher numbers of patients face to face, on the telephone or via online consultation than before. We have also given over 29,000 doses of vaccine as part of our Primary Care Network at the Health Centre. Our waiting room is open but still has limited capacity in line with national infection control guidelines for the NHS. If you arrive and it the seating is full please wait outside.

The vast majority of our GP appointments are booked over the telephone on a same day basis to allow us to manage when staff are pulled into isolation after covid contact or contract it themselves. Alternatively you can use the online consultation system for routine issues, please be aware though that this is not appropriate for medically urgent matters which should always be called through to the practice to ensure there is no delay in care.

We will be reviewing processes as things change over the spring and will continue to update you via the website. We have to abide by NHSE guidance so rules will be enforced, this includes staff isolating when positive for covid and mask wearing. Please respect these rules and our staff when attending for an appointment or when dealing with cancellation of appointments.

New Roles In Our Team

Mental Health Practitioner

We now have access to a number of appointments each weekday with a Mental Health Practitioner called Lisa Wheatley linked to our PCN. We understand that this may not be a familiar job to you and you may wonder why you are offered an appointment with her rather than a GP. The link below explains the role and how it can help you.

www.valeofyorkccg.nhs.uk/mentalhealthpractitioner

There is also a short video from Ben who works in Selby Town

https://youtu.be/2yzkhLZ-828

Health & Wellbeing Coach

Beatrice and Sarah are our Health and Wellbeing Coaches (Beatrice features in the video on the website below).

You may be offered a referral to them when you are seen in the surgery.

Covid Certification - UPDATED 28.2.22

The NHS App shows Covid-19 vaccine status if you received your vaccine in England. You can download the app from whichever app store you use. You will need to prove your identity to register by sending a photo of your current driving licence, passport or other official photo identification.

If you cannot use the App you can call 119 and ask for a letter to be posted to you. You can request this letter 5 days or more after your second dose. It will take around 5 days for the letter to be sent to you. Please be aware that vaccine requirements for travel vary and you may need to have had a booster to be considered fully vaccinated for arrival abroad.

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/demonstrating-your-covid-19-vaccination-status-when-travelling-abroad

Your GP Surgery cannot issue letters proving Covid-19 vaccination status.

If your vaccine record in the app is not complete and you had your vaccine in England please call 119 and ask to be referred to the VDRS (Vaccine Data Resolution Service). If you had your vaccine at the Health Centre we can update your records but we cannot add vaccines given elsewhere.

If you have had your vaccine outside of England and are 16+ you can now book via this link

 https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/tell-nhs-about-coronavirus-vaccinations-abroad/

to arrange to take your vaccine paperwork and ID to a centre to have them added to the App. This cannot be done by the practice.

To use this service you must have had one of the vaccines approved for use by the World Health Organisation, be registered with a GP in England and be able to attend for a face to face appointment with photographic ID and evidence of your overseas vaccination.

Thank you

Health Walks

https://www.walkingforhealth.org.uk/

Why not join the Tadcaster walk on the 4th Friday of the month?

This scheme is national and is designed to encourage people to start being active, the walks are short and over easy terrain.

Start point for the Tadcaster walk is the bus station at 10 am, the route is approximately two kilometers. Please arrive 15 minutes early to register.

The website does not have the Tadcaster walk on the calendar but we have leaflets available from reception if you are interested.

Dr Inglis Retirement, Dr Moss Joining The Team

Dr Inglis will start his well earned retirement at the end of October. He has worked in Tadcaster for over 26 years and will be very much missed.

Dr Richard Moss will be joining the partnership in November. He is an experienced GP who is currently working in Leeds but has also previously been a GP Partner on the Isle of Skye.

Dr Moss

Dr Inglis would like to thank all the patients who sent cards, presents and kind words for his retirement.

Dear Everyone,

I have received a huge number of cards, letters, gifts and other messages thanking me and wishing me a happy retirement, and I am very grateful for each one of them. I am sorry that I cannot reply to them all individually!

It has been my great privilege to work as part of the team at Tadcaster Medical Centre since February 1995, serving the lovely town of Tadcaster and its surrounding villages. I would particularly like to say thanks for the support that we received from so many people in the aftermath of the floods and loss of the bridge, and more recently during the very difficult times in the early stages of the Covid pandemic.

I wish Richard, the new partner, and the whole team, every happiness and success in the future.

I wish everyone good health and happiness.

With many thanks and very best wishes,

Andrew Inglis

Waiting Room

Since the start of October our waiting room has been open with limited capacity.

Please continue to wait in your car if you have an appointment and have driven.

If you have walked or taken the bus please enter but be conscious that there are limited chairs because of ongoing social distancing rules within the NHS. If there are elderly or vulnerable patients please give them priority for the available chairs.

Thank you

Appointments Data

In the four weeks ending 27th February we offered 4969 appointments at the practice, this does not include the covid vaccine site. 59% of them were face to face.

Our DNA rate (did not attend/take their booked call) was 2.5% which is much higher than normal. Thank you to all our patients who called and cancelled their appointment so that we could offer it to another patient rather than wasting it.

Flu 21/22 & Covid Vaccine Boosters Winter 21/22

Thank you to everyone who has come for their flu vaccine since September, over 3000 doses have been given. We now have no remaining stock at the practice.

Inhaled flu vaccine will be offered in school to all children from Reception to Yr 11, if your child is age 2-3 and has had an invitation please book an appointment with the nurse for their vaccine.

We have seen the guidance from the JCVI re third doses of vaccine for the immunocompromised and booster vaccines this winter. If you fall into the category of needing a third dose as well as a booster you should have received a letter from the practice letting you know how to access it.

You can choose to go to a walk in clinic or book via 119.

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/find-a-walk-in-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccination-site/

16-17 year olds who are now eligible for a second dose of vaccine can book via 119 12 weeks after their first dose unless they have had a Covid infection since then. If they have then they should book their second dose 12 weeks after that positive result and no sooner. The same rules apply to their booster vaccine.

We have contacted all the 5-11 year olds we believe are eligible for vaccination. If you think your child falls into the high risk category and have not been contacted please let us know.

Covid vaccine appointments at the local site or the central hubs will not appear in systmonline.

Please check the entry requirements for any country you plan to visit this year, rules vary re the need for a booster dose or for children over 12.

A new service has been launched which enables you to opt out of Covid vaccine invitations and reminders from the NHS centrally.

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/

Look for the option - Choose your Covid-19 vaccination invitation preference. This will not stop invitations or reminders from the practice, please let us know if you want to decline the vaccine.

Online Carers Assessment

https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/carer-assessment

This is for any carer and will help you think about your role, how it impacts your life and what support you may need.

You complete the assessment online and NYCC will be in touch if they need more information and to discuss support available.

Data Opt Out - UPDATED 20.7.21 GDPDR Now Postponed Indefinitely

NHS Digital is launching a new and updated system for collecting patient data for research and planning later this year. The website below explains what they take and how they use it.

It is really important that you read the information and make choices that reflect what you want done with the data we hold about you.

https://digital.nhs.uk/data-and-information/data-collections-and-data-sets/data-collections/general-practice-data-for-planning-and-research/advice-for-the-public

There are two types of data opt out and you can choose one, both or neither.

Your confidential data will still be used to offer you care, any opt out will not change this. If you are happy to have your data used for research and planning you don't need to do anything at all.

Opt Out 1: NHS Digital extracts pseudonymised data for research and planning purposes. This does not contain your name or your exact address but does have a code linked to it that allows re-identification should you later consent to data sharing as part of a trial or research project.

To opt out of this sharing please email the practice on tadcaster.admin@nhs.net or send us an online consultation via this website. If you have a form you have downloaded please post it in the prescriptions box to be actioned.

Opt Out 1 Form

Opt Out 2: This stops NHS Digital sharing identifiable information about you for research or planning and you can action the opt out via the link below.

https://www.nhs.uk/your-nhs-data-matters/

In times of national crisis the government can change the law to override these consents for specific types of data - this happened during the covid crisis.

This opt out applies where you have accessed health and social care in England, if you have previously accessed health services in Wales or Scotland the opt out will not apply.

New Adult (19+) Mental Health Support Service

Qwell is a free, safe and anonymous mental health and wellbeing service. There are no waiting lists, no referrals and no thresholds required to access the service, which is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and delivered by Kooth plc, the UK’s largest digital mental health provider.

The service encourages peer-to-peer support via moderated discussion forums and self-help through reading or submitting content. However, Qwell also gives people the opportunity to access online counselling from qualified counsellors who are available from noon to 10pm every weekday and from 6pm to 10pm at weekends. People can drop in for one-to-one instant text-based chats or book a session in advance.

Home Lateral Flow Testing Kits

The government has announced that each household will be able to order lateral flow testing kits from April 9th.

These will be available to order online or to collect from designated sites (mainly pharmacies).

The surgery does not hold stocks for distribution.

Household Members of Severely Immunocompromised Patients

Guidance has been issued today (1st April) that the household members age 12+ of patients who are severely immunosuppressed should be offered covid vaccine as part of cohort 6 rather than waiting for their age group.

This group is very specific and we will contact the patients who are eligible, please do not contact us.

To be eligible, household members must live at the same address and be able to prove it. This is a rule set by NHS England so please do not ask the practice team to deviate from it.

Thank you to Tom Foolery of Boston Spa who very kindly donated pizza for the vaccine centre staff last week.

They were very much appreciated.

Tom Foolery

Informal Carers

If you are an informal carer for a friend or relative please get in touch with the practice and let us know. We will link your details and log it in our system. If they are not registered with us we will need their NHS number to do this.

Informal carers are offered referral for support and are also eligible for the flu vaccine each year. This year some informal carers are also part of Cohort 6 of the Covid vaccine rollout which will be taking place later in the spring.

We have to follow government guidelines so you will need to either provide proof of carers allowance or be the unpaid main carer for an elderly or vulnerable adult.

We cannot register multiple individuals as main carer so please do not ask the reception team to do this as it puts them in a very difficult position when they have to decline.

UPDATE 8.3.2021 This is the government definition of an informal carer:

• Someone who cares for a person who is within JCVI priority cohorts 1-6, provides close personal care or is the sole or primary carer.

• An adult family member or friend providing daily face-to-face care to a person who, because of their advanced age, requires support but is still living in their own home.

• A person caring for an adult with Down’s Syndrome.

• A parent/foster parent caring for a young person who is receiving Personal Independence Payments (PIP) because of a severe neuro-disability.

• Any adult providing supplementary unpaid care to an older person who is self funding their own care package, for example through a domiciliary care agency.

• Two siblings who equally share and provide 24-hour care to an older person with dementia in addition to their own family and work commitments. If either sibling was to fall ill, the other would not be able to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the older person.

Health and Wellbeing Coaches

We are delighted that our new Health and Wellbeing Coaches are up and running from this week. They are employed by our Primary Care Network so cover Tadcaster, Sherburn and South Milford practices.

Both Abigail and Beatrice are Registered Nutritionists and are available to help empower patients to make positive changes to their health. The document below has more detail on the support they can offer.

Covid 19 Vaccination

Patients will be invited to attend the GP run site at Askham Bar for covid vaccinations going forward.

Alternatively patients age 18+ can contact the national booking service to book a first dose of vaccine in York, Leeds or at a local pharmacy site.

At the moment most patients with Asthma are NOT eligible for vaccine and will be vaccinated with their age group, this is a government decision not a local one.

Over 21,700 doses of vaccine have been given by our PCN since December 22nd. Over 10,500 second doses and over 11,200 first. Thank you to everyone who attended the clinic or volunteered at it.

The rules for prioritisation are set nationally so please do not ask our admin team to book you in unless you are invited.

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

If you use this service you will need your NHS Number, this can be found via the link below:

https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/online-services/find-nhs-number/

IF YOU WORK IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE AND NEED A VACCINE PLEASE USE THE LINK TO THE NATIONAL BOOKING SYSTEM IF YOU FALL INTO THE FOLLOWING GROUP.

We can only offer staff from the following list a vaccine:

  • Staff working on the vaccination programme
  • Staff with frequent face to face contact with patients and who are directly involved in patient care in hospital, primary care, mental health, urgent care or a community setting.
  • Staff from hospices and community based mental health and addiction services
  • Laboratory, pathology and mortuary staff
  • Sub contracted cleaners of healthcare settings
  • Locum or bank staff working face to face with patients in healthcare
  • Frontline social care workers working directly with vulnerable people employed by local government, the NHS, the independent sector or the third sector

This list is set by the government and we cannot deviate from it.

Ethnicity

The government has asked us to record the ethnicity of all our patients by the end of 2020 as part of their preparation for a Coronavirus vaccine. You may be asked by a team member when you contact us or receive a text or call from us asking for this information. If you are not happy to have your ethnicity recorded please let the staff know and they will note it in your record.

Thank you in advance for your help.

New NHS Website

https://www.yourcovidrecovery.nhs.uk/

This website is designed to help people recover from the long term effects of coronavirus, otherwise known as Covid-19.

If you have had Covid-19 you may still have some physical symptoms, such as breathlessness, a cough and lack of energy. You may also have psychological symptoms such as feeling scared or anxious, depressed, having trouble sleeping and struggling to remember or concentrate.

These symptoms, both physical and psychological are common. Your Covid Recovery includes information from experts about how to manage them and look after your health and wellbeing. It also includes information on returning to work, and a helpful section for family, friends and carers of people who are recovering.

Staying Safe Outside Your Home

If you can, wear a face covering when in an enclosed space where social distancing isn’t possible, or when you will come into contact with people you do not normally meet. This is most relevant for short periods indoors in crowded areas, for example, on public transport or in some shops.

Evidence suggests that wearing a face covering does not protect you. However, if you are infected but have not yet developed symptoms, it may provide some protection for others you come into close contact with.

Face coverings do not replace social distancing. If you have symptoms of COVID-19 (cough and/or high temperature), you and your household must isolate at home: wearing a face covering does not change this.

A face covering is not the same as the surgical masks or respirators used by healthcare and other workers as part of personal protective equipment. These should continue to be reserved for those who need them to protect against risks in their workplace, such as health and care workers, and those in industrial settings, like those exposed to dust hazards.

Face coverings should not be used by children under the age of 2 or those who may find it difficult to manage them correctly. For example, primary age children unassisted, or those with respiratory conditions.

It is important to use face coverings properly and wash your hands before putting them on and taking them off.

WE ASK THAT ALL USERS OF THE MEDICAL CENTRE COVER THEIR FACES WHEN THEY ENTER THE BUILDING. A SCARF IS OK IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A MASK.

The link below explains how to make a covering either with or without a sewing machine.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/how-to-wear-and-make-a-cloth-face-covering

Do you need a test for coronavirus?

The government has announced that tests are available for anyone whatever their age who has symptoms of cough, fever or loss of taste/smell and who has had these symptoms for LESS THAN FIVE DAYS. You can apply for a test using the link below:

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-for-coronavirus/ask-for-a-test-to-check-if-you-have-coronavirus/

THE MEDICAL CENTRE WILL NOT BE OPEN ON A SATURDAY MORNING UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE MEDICAL CENTRE AT ANY TIME UNLESS YOU HAVE A BOOKED APPOINTMENT OR ARE COLLECTING MEDICATION FROM DISPENSARY. ALL NON DISPENSING PATIENTS MUST NOMINATE A PHARMACY.

There is also a government website to help you find the support you need during this crisis. This has details on working, feeling unsafe, paying bills, getting food, having somewhere to live and your mental health.

Important information about the coronavirus (COVID-19)

The NHS across North Yorkshire and Bradford will be better prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases, if the public follows Public Health England advice.

The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of patients and staff which may mean your patient experience is subject to change.

The latest advice is to stay at home for 14 days if any member of your family has

  • a high temperature or
  • a new continuous cough

If you live alone you only need to stay at home for 7 days.

If you need to self isolate and your employer requires evidence please do not contact us for a sick note. Instead use the link below to get an Isolation Note from NHS 111.

https://111.nhs.uk/isolation-note/

DO NOT GO TO A GP SURGERY, COMMUNITY PHARMACY OR HOSPITAL

You do not need to call 111 to let them know you are staying at home.

Use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service if:

  • You feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home
  • your condition gets worse
  • your symptoms do not get better after 7 days

https://111.nhs.uk/covid-19

Only call 111 if you cannot get help online. The link below provides advice on staying at home.

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-advice/

Everyone is being reminded to follow Public Health England advice to:

  • Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue and wash your hands or use a sanitiser gel.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport. Use a sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are unwell.
  • Cover your face when you are inside a public place with people you do not live with such as shops or public transport.

Information remains subject to regular change and updates. More information can be found on the NHS website.

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

Please bear with us as we try to continue to offer the best service we can given the circumstances.

If you have an email address that you have not shared with us please let us have it to add to your record.

Thank you

CQC Inspection

In October we were inspected by the CQC and found to be good in all areas. We are delighted that the hard work of the team has been recognised. Thank you to all the patients who took the time to complete feedback cards when they were in the surgery.

Prescribing of Over the Counter Medication

NHS England has changed its policy on the prescribing of some medication that can be bought without a prescription from the chemist or the supermarket.

Please help us by not asking the GP to prescribe for minor health issues such as those detailed on the website below. You can save yourself time and free up GP appointments for those who really need them.

Summary Care Record with Additional Information

The vast majority of our patients have something called a Summary Care Record (SCR) which allows healthcare professionals treating them elsewhere to see current medication and any allergies we have recorded.

The next step is to add more information to make the SCR more useful for clinicians who are using it and add things like any operations you may have had in the past, immunisations or decisions you have made about your care.

None of this will be made available without your consent.

If you would like to upgrade your SCR please complete the form below and return it to reception.

New Park and Ride Service - York Hospital

York Hospital is to launch a new park and ride bus service directly to the hospital in partnership with First York and made possible thanks to funding from York Teaching Hospital Charity.

The new service will launch on Monday 29 April 2019 and will run every 20 minutes from Rawcliffe Bar Park and Ride from 6.00am until 8.10pm, Monday to Friday.

Tickets will cost £3.20 for an adult return ticket, there will be reduced fares for NHS staff with valid ID.

Individual car use and the congestion caused is a big contributor to air pollution in York and the hospital approached First York to help reduce the number of cars travelling daily to and from the hospital.

For more information visit: www.firstgroup.com/york.

Change To NHS Prescribing Policy

Over The Counter Medication

The leaflet above details the medication that the surgery will not usually prescribe going forward. This is a national policy designed to use NHS resources more appropriately and not a practice decision.

Improving Access

The government has an initiative to allow patients to see a GP outside of normal surgery hours for routine care.

After careful consideration of transport links we have opted to be part of the York service offering these appointments.

More detail can be found on their website  https://www.primarycareyork.nhs.uk/

You may find that the reception team offer you an appointment at another site if it is convenient for you, if you are seen using this service you will be asked for your consent to share your data.

Tadcaster Medical Centre will have a GP seeing patients for this service on a Saturday morning. These appointments have to be booked and there will be no service for walk in patients.

Improving Access

GP Online

This new service offers another way of contacting the practice with admin or clinical queries at a time that is convenient for you.

Messages received by 11 a.m. Monday to Friday will receive a same day response but you can access the system 24 hours a day.

GP Online Tadcaster

Online Consultations

Later this month we will be launching online consultations as an additional way of contacting the practice.

There will be two options, one to get help from the practice and the other to get self help information from the NHS. Neither should be used in an emergency and the website will not replace 999 or 111.

We hope that this will offer an easy way to get in touch with medication requests, fit note requests, medical queries or other questions at a time that suits you.

The responses will not be immediate as the site will be available 24 hours a day for maximum patient convenience.

Our reception team will still be available as usual and this service will not replace Patient Partner or Systmonline which will both continue to operate.

The website will only accept queries from patients who are registered with the practice and you will be required to provide a contact number (or email if you prefer).

ALZHEIMERS SOCIETY - DEMENTIA ADVICE CLINIC

The Alzheimers Society runs a clinic on the third Thursday of the month here at the practice. You can book a half hour appointment with a Dementia Support Worker via our reception team.

The clinic is aimed at those patients who are worried about their memory, those with a dementia diagnosis and at the carers of both these groups. You do not need to be registered at the practice to use this service.

There are also clinics at other practices across North Yorkshire or at the Alzheimers Society office if the Thursday session is not convenient. The link below takes you to their website where you can see all the support they can offer.

https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/find-support-near-you

Contact Details

Please let us know if your phone number changes. We have recently had problems contacting patients who needed urgent medical care because they had changed their number and not told the practice.

Thank you for your help.

GDPR

On May 25th new rules come into force regarding the data we hold about you as your GP surgery. Our Fair Processing Notice is on our New Patients page. You can download it from this website or request a paper copy from reception.

As a result we will be asking for ID when medication is collected from Dispensary or letters and other paperwork are collected from reception. Please bear with us and our team in this period of adjustment.

Please do not worry about this change.

Patient Transport

If you are eligible for patient transport you may be interested in registering for the new online portal that the ambulance service is launching. It will allow you to view and manage your transport using a smartphone or computer.

Call 01904 584222 or email patient.zone@yas.nhs.uk to register.

Signposting

The NHS is changing and so are the staff, along with all GP Practices nationally we are working with the reception team  to signpost patients to the most appropriate healthcare professional who may not always be a GP.

Our nurses have been very busy training over the past year - why not see if one of them can help you next time you come to the surgery?

Have you been referred to hospital?

NHS England, the BMA and NAPP (The Association of Patient Participation) have worked together to produce this leaflet that explains the process and gives you a checklist to take to your appointment.

Frailty Work

You may have heard on the news that GPs have been asked to do some work with patients who have been identified as severely frail. The leaflet below details why and what sort of questions you may be asked.

Medicine For Use At School or Nursery

As we head into a new school year we have been asked by our local Medical Committee to remind patients that it is NOT necessary to have over the counter medication (such as calpol) on prescription if you want it to be used at school or nursery.

They have shared the guidance below:

The Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage – effective April 2017 identifies current national standards for day care and childminding from birth to five, whereby non-prescription medication can be administered if the parent has given prior written consent for the administration of any medication.

The Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage – 3rd April 2017 may be accessed at: http://www.foundationyears.org.uk/files/2017/03/EYFS_STATUTORY_FRAMEWORK_2017.pdf

For ease of reference it states (page 27):

Prescription medicines must not be administered unless they have been prescribed for a child by a doctor, dentist, nurse or pharmacist (medicines containing aspirin should only be given if prescribed by a doctor).

Medicine (both prescription and non-prescription) must only be administered to a child where written permission for that particular medicine has been obtained from the child’s parent and/or carer. Providers must keep a written record each time a medicine is administered to a child, and inform the child’s parents and/or carers on the same day, or as soon as reasonably practicable.

The Supporting Pupils at School with Medical Conditions - December 2015 statutory guidance for governing bodies of maintained schools & proprietors of academies in England may be accessed at:

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/484418/supporting-pupils-at-school-with-medical-conditions.pdf

It states (page 20):

No child under 16 should be given prescription or non-prescription medicines without their parent’s written consent – except in exceptional circumstances where the medicine has been prescribed to the child without the knowledge of the parents. In such cases, every effort should be made to encourage the child or young person to involve their parents while respecting their right to confidentiality. Schools should set out the circumstances in which non-prescription medicines may be administered

A child under 16 should never be given medicine containing aspirin unless prescribed by a doctor. Medication, e.g. for pain relief, should never be administered without first checking maximum dosages and when the previous dose was taken. Parents should be informed

Shingles Vaccine

The Department of Health recommends that all 70 year olds book to have a Shingles vaccine with the nurse. If you are currently 70 we will be writing to you this week.

In addition all 78 or 79 year olds and people over 70 but born after 1st September 1942 can also have the vaccine as part of a catch up group.

WE CANNOT GIVE THE VACCINE TO ANYONE WHO IS 80 OR OLDER OR WHO FALLS OUTSIDE THE GROUPS ABOVE.

Please book to see Nurse Emma or Nurse Katie for your vaccine.

APPOINTMENTS FLOWCHART

At the request of our Patient Participation Group we have updated the flowchart that explains when GP appointments are released on a daily basis. Click on the link in the Appointments section or pop into the practice to pick up a print out.

If you would like to contact the group they have their own email address voyccg.ppgtadcaster@nhs.net.

CONTACT VIA EMAIL

We understand that some patients may find it more convenient for us to email them rather than sending letters in the post.

If you would like us to update your record to send letters this way please complete the form below and return it to us. The form makes clear the risks inherent in sending personal information about you via email outside of the secure NHS network.

New System When Booking Appointments 9th May

Please read this letter from the partners at the practice regarding changes to the process when you are booking your appointments.

2016 Appointments

Named GP & Patient Online

All our patients are registered with us as a practice and can see any GP on the team here. By March 2016 the government has decided that every patient also has to have a named GP linked to their record who will have responsibility for the coordination of care for that patient.

If you would like to know who your named GP is please ask at reception or in your next consultation.

Having a named GP should not change how you use the practice and does NOT prevent you from seeing any GP at the practice as you currently do. For this reason we will not be routinely changing the named GP assigned to your record.

This practice plans to offer the facility for patients to view online, export or print detailed coded information held in their own records before 31st March 2016 (a small group of patients are currently testing the software). If you would like access to this information please complete the attached file and bring it to the Medical Centre with photographic identification.

Parents are able to have proxy access to this level of detail for their children up to the age of eleven.
