Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling 01225 331616 before 10:30.
You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls
You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
The ‘earlier home visiting service’ for vulnerable patients
This service is specifically for patients who have suddenly become very unwell and cannot wait for a routine GP visit at home. It is for people that need to be seen urgently at home and then potentially admitted to hospital as an emergency.
The patient is seen by a highly trained paramedic who has worked in hospitals, urgent care centres and doctors surgeries. They assess and manage ill patients at home, administer antibiotics and other medicines normally prescribed by a doctor as well as treat minor injuries.
The service runs during Monday to Friday excluding weekends and bank holidays.
It is important to understand that this service does not replace other routine home or nursing home visits by your own GP. It is specifically for the most vulnerable patients and they can only be referred by their GP, after we’ve received the initial call to let us know about the patient’s condition. It is not possible to directly refer yourself or someone in your care.
We are running this service together with other surgeries in the local area, with a Specialist paramedic for the service seeing patients from across the practices each day.
