National Cardiovascular Disease Prevention (CVD) Programme
Cardiovascular diseases, including heart disease and stroke are a major health concern and rank as the second leading cause of death in Scotland.
Many risk factors for these conditions often go unnoticed due to a lack of symptoms meaning people may be unaware they are at risk. In response, the Scottish Government has introduced a programme providing straightforward checks to identify these risks early, enabling timely intervention to lower the chances of developing cardiovascular disease.
Eligibility for these checks is extended to individuals aged 35 to 60 who have not undergone all of the following assessments within the past three years:
- Height, Weight and Body Mass Index (BMI)
- Blood tests for high Cholesterol levels and Diabetes
- Blood pressure measurement
- Evaluation of smoking habits
- Review of alcohol consumption
Eligible patients will be contacted via text message. If you have received a text message please contact reception after 2 pm on 0141 956 1339 and book in for your 30 minute CVD appointment.
If identified as having a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, you will be invited to attend a follow up appointment with a GP and then asked to attend for a further follow up review in six months after your initial assessment.
For further details and guidance on reducing your risk of heart disease, please visit the website shared by the Scottish Government as part of the initiative.
