Training Practice

As a practice we have an educational ethos. As such we often have learners working within our practice in all clinical and non clinical areas. They are always supervised throughout their training period and welcome any feedback that you give them. Because they are learning they may ask question of you which you might expect them to already know or be “on my records”. Please be patient with them as generally they are checking to ensure that they do not make a mistake and cause you any inconvenience or harm.

All clinical learners you do have a right not to see. However, we would ask you to see the learner where possible as unless they learn now in a controlled environment they may make mistakes by learning after qualification without the support they currently will be receiving.

Medical Students

We currently have student from Manchester University attending the practice on various dates. They are normally with us up to 14 weeks at a time so you may see the same person on a number of occasions depending on your personal health circumstances. Because they are not yet qualified they cannot prescribe investigate or diagnose so generally you will tend to see a doctor on the same occasion as a student. The only exception to this is when we occasionally ask a patient with a specific condition if they would mind seeing student so they can discuss that condition in slightly more detail. Again because we realise this may be inconvenient the student will see you either at home or in the surgery according to what is best for yourself. We thank you for your co-operation should we ask you to be involved in this way.

GP Registrars

We have a registrar at the practice continually for typically a twelve month period. These are fully qualified doctors who are in the process of training to be GP’s. They frequently have extensive experience in other fields where they have worked and often ended up teaching the “resident” GPs almost as much about these areas as the learn from the practice. Please co-operate with their learning as much as possible by seeing them especially if there is no appointments available for your regular Doctor.

Student Practice Nurses

These are generally fully qualified nurses who are specialising in Practice Nursing. They are with us generally for a six to twelve month period and undertake all the normal duties of a practice nurse. Again they are clearly supervised during this time and so occasionally the consultation may take longer than might typically be expected due to these checks. These are to ensure your satisfaction and health so please bear with us should this be the case.
