New to the NHS?

Advice to foreigners who require treatment in the UK can be obtained by clicking http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/AboutNHSservices/uk-visitors/Pages/access-services-in-England.aspx

This website can be translated into various languages. Click the "Translate this page" link in the top right corner.

Another useful resource is Southampton New Communities which gives advice on housing, children, health, how to open a bank account & many other areas for those new to Southampton.

If patients are getting into difficulties with the new changes to benefits etc there is a helpline called EU Welcome for those who cannot understand or speak much English. They can put people in touch with their own language help groups & provide advice. There is a website which has been translated in all different (European) languages:

www.euwelcome.org.uk

If you need more information about where to access healthcare, have a look at the NHS Choices website: www.nhs.uk

Interpreters

We can arrange a telephone interpreter if you are concerned that you may not be able to understand English during your consultation. Please inform the reception staff on arrival that you require an interpreter. Most languages are available but occasionally it may not be possible to get the interpreter on line that you need. Please be patient as it does take time to contact the interpreters.

The interpreters that we use are confidential.
