Family Planning & Sexual Health

Family Planning and Sexual Health

You can contact the Chalmers Sexual Health & Family Planning Centre for confidential advice if you have any concerns about contraception, sexual health, sexually-transmitted diseases or genito-urinary symptoms such as recurrent vaginal discharge.

Vasectomy

For vasectomy, patients can self refer to Chalmers Sexual Health Centre and a clinic appointment can be arranged directly. This will involve a discussion about  your general health, past medical history as well as detailed information provided about the vasectomy, what to expect following the procedure, failure rates and risks. Chalmers Health Centre can be contacted on 0131 536 1070. Click here for more information on the location and opening times.

Emergency Contraception

If you need advice about emergency contraception you could phone NHS 24 on 111. Most pharmacies in Edinburgh will supply the emergency contraceptive pill free of charge to anyone age 13 and over who is registered with a GP in Scotland. Although known as “the morning after pill”, the emergency contraceptive pill can be taken a few days after the incident, but is more effective the sooner you take it.

Termination of Pregnancy

If you have had a positive pregnancy test and don't want to continue the pregnancy, there are different ways you can be referred to an NHS clinic to discuss a termination, including contacting them yourself.

For more information, visit http://lothiansexualhealth.scot.nhs.uk/pregnancy/termination/Pages/default.aspx or to book an appointment call 0131 536 2454 Monday to Friday from 0900 to 1500.
