Welcome

You may have been asked to visit this page to find out more about the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme (DPP). You do not have to have diabetes to participate in this programme, you just need to have been identified by your Nurse or GP as being at ‘high risk’ of developing it. The hope is that having learned more about diabetes and the diabetes prevention programme, you can make an informed choice about whether or not this is something you would like to participate in. If having learned about the programme you could like to participate in it, please call 0330 2233706 to sign up to the programme.

Type 2 Diabetes

Over 5 million people in the UK are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 represents 90% of all diabetes and is largely caused by lifestyle factors. The good news is that it can be avoided by making changes in diet and exercise habits.

To find out more about what diabetes is and how can it affect you please click here to download the LWTC Type 2 Diabetes patient Information leaflet. Alternatively you can visit NHS choices and obtain this information.

The prevention programme

To join the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme you will need to be referred by a healthcare professional - most likely your GP or Nurse - based on the results of a blood test.

The Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme is designed for people who are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Some of the known risk factors can't be changed, but there are others you have control of every day and you can affect your level of risk by the choices you make.

The programme is about providing structured support in a relaxed and friendly environment and it’s all about you taking control.
