Minor Ailments (Pharmacy First)

You can get rapid advice, treatment, and even prescriptions for free from your local pharmacy via the NHS Pharmacy First Service. This may save you from making an appointment with your GP. Please click here for more information

You can use the NHS Minor Ailment Service if:



    • You are registered with a GP in Scotland, and
    • You don't pay for your prescriptions, and
    • You don't live in a nursing or residential care home.



If you are eligible for this service, you will be able to get advice and free treatment (if you need it) from your pharmacist for minor illnesses and complaints such as:



    • Acne

    • Athlete's foot

    • Backache

    • Cold sores

    • Constipation

    • Cough

    • Diarrhoea

    • Ear ache

    • Eczema and allergies

    • Emergency contraception

    • Haemorrhoids

    • Hay fever

    • Headache

    • Head lice

    • Indigestion

    • Mouth ulcers

    • Nasal congestation

    • Pain

    • Period pain

    • Thrush

    • Sore throat

    • Threadworms

    • Warts and verrucae
