Training Practice

Valkyrie Surgery has been a training practice since 1963 for Doctors, medical students and nurses wishing to undergo specialist training in general practice. Currently three of our Doctors are accredited trainers in general practice. As a training practice we are inspected every 3 years and medical records are inspected for quality not content. If you have any objections , please let us know and these notes will be withdrawn from inspection.

As part of our commitment to education and training we usually have GP registrars working within the practice. These are fully qualified Doctors with considerable experience who are reaching the end of their specialist training in general practice. They typically spend a year in the practice and function much as the other Doctors here, whilst under the supervision of their GP with their own workload, surgeries and visits.
From time to time, our registrars are asked to do video consultations for the purposes of training and we really appreciate your cooperation in this important part of their education. Our receptionists will always let you know if your consultation is to be taped and this is only done with your prior consent. On occasions, medical students, or student nurses also sit in with the Doctor during consultations. You will always be asked before your consultation if you are happy for this student to be present, if you wish to see your Doctor alone, please let reception know.

We have been fortunate to date in having excellent Doctors placed with us, and some of our old registrars are not working as GP's in the area and our practice. We feel that both our practice and our patients benefit considerably from their commitment and enthusiasm.

If you are a Doctor who is interested in training and working with our enthusiastic team, you can obtain more information from the local vocational training scheme. http://www.southendgpstp.com/
