NHS Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group have developed a new patient decision aid for total knee and hip replacements which provides information on:
- When it would be of benefit to have a total knee or hip replacement;
- Steps to take prior to knee or hip replacement surgery;
- Exploration of some possible preconceptions about knee or hip replacement surgery;
- What to expect at the time of and after a knee or hip replacement.
This service is provided for patients for whom knee or hip replacement is being considered as a possible option, either now or at some time in the future. The decision aid consists of a video in which a consultant surgeon will show you what the operation involves and a series of questions to enable you to make a decision as to whether total knee or hip replacement surgery is the best option for you.
