DVLA and License expiry

Driving License Expiries During COVID-19

During COVID many drivers’ license's have expired and the DVLA gave extensions so that they could continue to drive and work.  For many drivers though this extension is coming to an end.  Drivers are now being told by DVLA to ask their GP if they are “fit to drive” so that they can continue to drive under Section 88 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 (RTA 1988).

Stating a person isn't fit for driving can have a huge impact- therefore, our policy for this is that if the GP has any doubt about the decision of being fit for driving, they will decline the offer of providing assurance/ opinion to the DVLA, and instead they will only send factual information from your health record.
