New Pregnancy

If you have a positive pregnancy test, you can self-refer to the midwife team at Dovecote house by calling 0115 952 2412

We recommend that you make an appointment with the midwife as early as possible in your pregnancy so that your first appointment is carried out before you are 10 weeks pregnant for the best outcomes for you and your baby.

It is especially important that you refer yourself early if you have a medical condition (including diabetes or epilepsy) or you have had complications with your previous pregnancies.

We would advise you to start taking folic acid 400mcg once daily when you are trying to conceive. If you have not already started taking folic acid, please start taking folic acid as soon as you find out you are pregnant. You are also advised to start vitamin D 10 mcg daily. You may choose to take these in a combined pregnancy multivitamin supplement. Please ask the pharmacist for more information if you are unsure which supplement is suitable.
