The NHS provides most health care free of charge, however there are a number of other services that are not covered  and which fees are charged.  Doctors are involved in a whole range of work, largely on the basis that they occupy a position of trust within the community, and are in the position to verify the accuracy of information. If a GP signs a certificate or completes a report, it is a professional duty that s(he) checks the accuracy of such information. This may involve examining the patient's entire medical record.

Hamstreet Surgery will not being doing any private medicals from the 6th Spetember 2019. This includes fitness to drive and fitness medicals for sporting events. If you require a private medical these can be done a number of local facilities including Woodchurch Surgery - 01233 860236 www.woodchurchsurgery.co.uk and VM Medics - 07923 902928 www.vmmedics.com.

Firearms Licences

At Hamstreet Surgery we are changing the way we deal with firearm licencing medical factual reports based on advice from our union (British medical Association) and working with local and national police. We recognise as a rural practice that firearms are part of a rural way of life. Equally it is clear that there are obvious safety concerns surrounding lethal weapons and a recognition that health matters could be of concern to the police and public. Secondly we receive a large number of these requests which are quite burdensome and impact on our ability to deliver NHS services which we do not feel is fair to all. Having received a request from the police we are obliged to provide information regarding your medical records within 21 days. This request falls outside of NHS contracted work for GPs and in a similar way to other services that fall outside of NHS work (such as insurance reports, HGV licences) we will charge a fee of £30 to reflect GP time and administration. The report will be completed and returned to the police once we have received our payment fee. If the fee has not been paid to us within 21 days we shall inform the police that we are not content to provide a summary of medical facts as the applicant has declined to pay a fee. This may cause your licence to be revoked, or re-issuing of the licence to be delayed. Fees can be paid straight into our bank or at the surgery with cash or card.
