Medical information about you needs to be available to all the clinical members of our primary health care team who treat you.
Non clinical staff are only allowed to see medical information when necessary.
A duty of confidentiality will apply to anyone given access to your records and you have a right to object to disclosure.
Please note that all telephone calls into and out of the surgery may be recorded for reference and training purposes.
Occasionally we will send you SMS messages with reminders related to your healthcare. This helps you keep up to date with appointments and screening programmes. If you do not want us to contact you this way please tell reception.
How we use your Medical Records:
Summary
Llanishen Court Surgery handles medical records in-line with laws on data protection and confidentiality.
We share medical records with those who are involved in providing you with care and treatment.
In some circumstances we will also share medical records for medical research, for example to find out more about why people get ill.
We share information when the law requires us to do so, for example, to prevent infectious diseases from spreading or to check the care being provided to you is safe.
You have the right to be given a copy of your medical record.
You have the right to object to your medical records being shared with those who provide you with care.
You have the right to object to your information being used for medical research and to plan health services.
You have the right to have any mistakes corrected and to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

The "Welsh GP Record" is a summary of your GP record compiled by NHS Wales, which will let GPs and nurses working in A&E and your local Out of Hours Service see some basic information about your medical history. Click here to learn more about the Welsh GP Record
The Local Health Board has a duty to make occasional administrative checks on practices, which involve seeing medical information. The person carrying out the check will be properly trained and authorised by the Board and will have a duty of confidentiality. They will only see that part of your record relevant to the checks being made.
