Who is it for?

People aged 16 and above who live within the Derbyshire CCG boundaries suffering from common mental health issues such as work related stress, anxiety and relationship difficulties or low level mental health issues. It is an early intervention service for people in emotional or psychological distress.

What is it?

Big White Wall combines social networking principles with a choice of clinically informed interventions to improve mental wellbeing. It can be accessed 24/7 and has staff (Wall Guides) who ensures the full engagement, safety and anonymity of members.

Big White Wall is a community of people who are experiencing common mental health issues who are supported to self-manage their own mental health.

What can people do on BWW?

Big White Wall offers a range of therapeutic interventions including highly creative self- expression. Other features are:

-Talk therapy in community, groups and on a one to one basis (Commencing November 2015 using the IAPT services provided by Talking Mental Health Derbyshire)

-Guided groups informed by recognised therapies such as cognitive behaviour and interpersonal therapies on topics including managing anxiety and depression, and healthy lifestyles; weight management, stop smoking and reducing alcohol

-Extensive Useful Stuff section on the website to help people self- manage psychological distress

-Networking based on peer support including the ability to make friends and follow their moods and activities

What are the common issues that people bring to Big White Wall?

Anything that is causing emotional or psychological distress: This can include anxiety, stress, feeling low and depressed, feeling out of control, trauma; all of which may be triggered by life events such as the loss of a loved one, relationship breakdowns, employment related issues, financial crisis, sexuality, isolation, alcohol or drug related problems.
