The Nourishment Network is a group of academics and food professionals looking to change the discourse on food and health. We believe that food is one of life’s great pleasures and a healthy diet should not be at the exclusion of enjoyment. We are dedicated to providing accurate information about food and health, without making judgements about people’s choices. All food has its place and all food choices are sensible for the people making them. Guilt and shame have no place when it comes to influencing people’s dietary decisions.

Our aim is to provide useful, realistic information to help inform food choices. We want to provide a voice that will help people develop a sensible, balanced relationship with what they eat, and allow them to make decisions that make sense in the context of their lives.

A ‘good diet’ means much more than one that is optimised nutritionally. It means a healthy, loving relationship with food. It means acceptance that physical health is not the driver of every food choice. It means embracing the rich variety and huge pleasure that the world of food has to offer.

What does Nourishment Network want to achieve?

  • To reframe the discourse around food and health.
  • To communicate and comment upon aspects of nutrition science in a new and different way.
  • To provide a counterpoint to reductionist, risk management narratives in any debate about dietary choices.
  • To reaffirm the importance of enjoyment when it comes to food.
